We were expecting this to 'unexpectedly' appear. Does anyone else find it strange that not a single supporter of the existing agreement has even mentioned the Mar Report?
Wonder what the explanation for the statement's timely discovery will be? " Well, we just happened to find it this morning."
Complete BS.
*************
It was forwarded to Councillors yesterday from the Treasurer's office at Councillor Thompson's request. It was stated previously we had received it. That was in error.
There is no requirement under the agreement for financial statements to be circulated to Councillors. They were not until now. .
There were references to Mr. Mar, the town solicitor's report at Tuesday's meeting.
Councillor Ballard noted that he disagreed with the report.
Note when I moved last fall, the Solicitor be directed to review the contract, the Mayor demurred, out of concern for Mr. Mar's workload.
At the time of the motion in council, to indicate his understanding of the directive, Mr. Mar indicated he would look for omissions and shortcomings in the agreement He did exactly that. His report was full and complete.
Mr. Mar was not town solicitor at the time the agreement was written. There was no solicitor on staff. On Tuesday responsibility
was placed on the shoulders of a legal clerk.
Gaertner, Granger Ballard and Whitehurst were involved in writing that agreement. Fat chance advice was sought from an employee.
Gaertner was chairman of the committee for God's sake. Not without deliberate intent. in my opinion the agreement was written to achieve the purpose of exactly what came of it.
Asked who was responsible for the agreement, Mr. Mar responded he had not discovered that information.
An indication of Mr. Mar's clear discernment of the line between administrative responsibility and political.
Ineed to go back now ad take care of the problem with page 2 of te Financial statement.
"Gaertner, Granger, Ballard and Whitehurst were involved in writing that agreement."
ReplyDeleteIs it any surprise that we have a royal mess on our hands after the above group crafted an agreement that amounts to millions of dollars being handed over to a select group of people with inadequate accountability, according to the town’s new solicitor ? The next thing we could hear from the above group is the claim that they set the gold standard for legal documents and arts funding.
The sad truth is that we get the government that we deserve and we can only hope that come the next election that there is a collective memory that results in further house cleaning. We are moving in the right direction but our work appears to be never done.
