Yes, We DO Care

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Oh Dear... What Can The Matter Be":

Last line on application to Aurora Farmers' Market
" I further agree that the AFM has the right to disqualify my application and permit at any time based on insubordination, non-payment and/or non-compliance. "

**************

Clause 4.2 of the Aurora Farmers Market Bylaw states.

The Director  in his/her  discretion, reserves the right to issue a permit or not to re-issue a permit.

On the other hand, on Tuesday, the Director informed Council  a vendor permit application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the Aurora Farmers' Market .

A new source has informed me The Code of Conduct was distributed by Catherine Cook. with the requirement to sign immediately.

I suppose a refusal might have meant "insubordination".   The word could mean many things.

It could mean refusal to stand at attention when an executive officer walks .by.

Or failure to bend down from the wist and  lay one's eyes on the visage of a supreme being.within thirty feet of a vendor.

Why  should we care?

A valid question...perhaps. I will seek to respond.

The town has provided a venue for a  Market.

Not much point  if  no vendors. appear.

The Town has created a vendors permit....passed a bylaw...set out the conditions for vendors to function.

Not much point in any of that, if  the town does not believe a Market is a desirable amenity.

Given the foregoing,  it would appear the Town might  have an interest in vendors having a good experience and an interest in returning  on a regular basis.

Vendors..retailers...business in general do not engage in hostilities. Goodwill is a large part of successful  retailing.

If the environment is hostile, the sensible thing  from a vendor's perspective is to re-locate.

As a Councillor , and I am not alone, I do not believe that would serve theTown's intent or the community's interest.

I think we should care..We should set about correcting  any misunderstanding  forthwith. .

  1. Good Morning
I am a senior who attends the market and I feel embarrassed for one of the sellers.I have strong suspicion the actions at the market are targeting one individual who has utilized their expression of free speech. They have also come under attack for many years.Leave the darn soul alone.
