Whose Interets Is Being Served ?
Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "A Queer Contradiction":
Throughout the summer there are numerous out-door events utilizing Aurora facilities. All run smoothly under staff supervision. None cause controversy or involve long hours of council debate except the Jazz Group. They start of the year with presentations and demands which grow annually to become more outrageous. There has never been an expression of appreciation for all that has been provided. The mantra is always, " We need more."
We should not have a 2-tier system in which a single entity receives more attention in return for less good will.

Many things happened in the last term that never happened before.
The current Council continues to have to deal with the aftermath.
Whether we like it or not.
It has occurred to some if the community desires a Town of Aurora Summer Jazz Festival , the Town of Aurora should be responsible for organizing the same.
Not the least consideration should be if it's advertised as the Jazz Festival of Aurora, that is what it should be.
.I don't know any member of Council or staff who fancies themselves to be a Jazz aficionado. I do know it is a special style of music. Steel drum Jamaican style, while pleasant to hear does not fit the bill.
It may be the town should invite expressions of interests for a Jazz Festival. Whether our staff are the people to organise it, we would soon discover..
Whether it would require public funds to be invested, we would learn that also.
Whether it needs to be a week-end endeavour or included in the program of summer concerts in the park for which sponsors are solicited, that may prove to be the way to go.
I certainly believe the current practice does not in any way serves the community's interest..

ReplyDeleteAha!!! It's a racial thing!
I have not gone in a few years but there is or was “beer garden” at Ribfest. I remember there was a fence up for that as well but don’t think it went around the entire park?
ReplyDeleteAnyone?
The Ribfest fence goes around a portion of the park leaving the playground free but so does the Jazz fest - the big difference is that anyone can go inside the fence at no charge during the ribfest - it's free unless you want to eat/drink - why are we not moving the Jazz Festival to the same venue and have the same rules apply?
