Body Language

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Who Will Buy, My Sweet Scented Lavender":

Your comments about "long stride and short stepping made me laugh. I just happened to notice the other day Mr. Romney's gait and you are right about the short steps. He walks like a little girl.

 *************
After each debate, CNN trotted out an expert on body language to define the candidates. No reference was made to gait.
Body language reveals a lot .
I had read ,Governor Romney was/is a Bishop in his church.I watched for signs of Bishop-like deportment. .
Bishops are Shepherds of their flock. There is biblical reference to that effect. They carry a shepherd's crook.
Sheep are considered to have little intelligence because of  a tendency to huddle.
Collie dogs can herd them this way and that, with or without  a signal from the shepherd. .
Would any of that show in  Bishop Romney's debating style, I wondered?
Short quick steps and arms hanging uselessly slightly ahead of him, I had already noted.
After that I noted  the President's long loping confident style, his arms up and ready to go,lightly stepping up wherever  he had to climb.
At the first debate, Romney, despite aggressive language, tilted his head slightly., maintained a vacuous smile throughout and the same  slightly wistful  look in his eyes.
Obama on the other hand, lowered his eyes while listening, as if to hide what he was thinking. Which considering the unbelievable contradictions he was listening to,  was not hard to understand.
But the yammering hordes in the media wanted more. They wanted blood on the floor.
I noticed something else.
The day after,Romney was  hurrying towards a plane,  confident, eager to build on his success
His beautiful wife, Anne, was not with him . She was well behind  slow and flagging. He went back to take her arm.
Both  candidates' wives must be given full  credit  for willingness to contribute to the national debate.
In the last election, Michelle Obama was accused of not being a  loyal  American.
Anne Romney's condition makes her effort especially poignant.
That the candidate would forget it  for a moment is hard to understand.
There must be room for different political philosophies.
A billionaire's philosophy is not likely to reflect my own.Especially one who never had to work  a day in his life.
But ,it's important for people believe what a candidate  says is what the candidate believes.
Romney didn't even try to be consistent.Like a Bishop perhaps.
With a short sharp whistle or yell,  the collie dog will round up the foolish flock and herd them en masse , into the  fold.
We shall see how well His Eminence has calculated the odds

  1. It is going to be dreadfully close. And I recall that election in which Bush finally got Florida. I'm still not sure if that was strictly legal. While I won't place a penny on either side, there certainly will be angry challenges and charges. Probably from both parties.

  2. Since you have changed topic to the American presidential election, thank-you, there was a news flash in the past 30 minutes that the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, has endorsed President Obama's re-election.

In his comments on Romney he says: "a good and decent man" who would bring "valuable business experience" to the White House. He said Romney has taken "sensible positions" in the past on issues such as immigration, illegal guns and abortion rights and has "reversed course on all of them" in his presidential campaign.

Obama, meanwhile, has gained "some important victories on issues that will help define our future," including climate change, health care, education and gay rights.

Mr. Bloomberg is one of the few sane national figures in American politics.

  3. New York got the subways partially up today. They are running north of 34th where I guess they escaped the salt water soaking. That opens a good chunk of the city and buses from the north can do a lot of the inter-street stuff.

  6. I wonder how long it will be before someone howls that this has nothing to do with Aurora? Maybe it will cut us some slack for a few days?
