We Shall See What We Shall See

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "ALL POLITCS IS PERSONAL":

I believe that you are quite right, Evelyn. However, the majority voted for the new contract with all its attendant problems. Next the Centre will be presenting it's budget. Maybe there will be a bit of wiggle-room there but that appears to be all. At the end of the day, we have the council we elected with all its attendant problems.

************
In politics, the day never ends.
A couple of details  were disclosed during the recent debate over the  new contract.
First was  revelation by the President that at no time had  the question of self-sufficiency been broached by the town's side of  negotiations.
They were staff.
It's interesting because now everybody knows the board was never
expected to be financially self-sufficient.
Although that's what the  consultant recommended  and that's what was presented in public and that's what was what the public understood. And me.
The second  detail  that all but one board member had been replaced was news. We don't know how many times.
Apart from the  merits of continuity another question arises.
The current President is third since the beginning.
Board members are volunteers.
Only one reward  comes from  volunteering. It's the satisfaction  of knowing the task is worthwhile.
Former board members had the opportunity to serve three two year terms. It seems they served one.
We have  town advisory committees
People go to a lot of trouble submitting  profile and backgrounds that qualify them for the job.
Some of them get appointed.
Then meetings are missed, re-scheduled,  cancelled, resignations are received and generally speaking,  not much is accomplished.
Satisfaction that the task is worthwhile is barely evident.
So the contract is signed. Six board members are in place.
We shall see.

  1. Is the chair of the board not a paid position ? I thought that it came with a salary of $60,000.

Where did you pick that up? Please cite your source because I do not believe it to be true. Could be but then there is no reason for Aurora to know such piddling little details.
