I received a comment yesterday that Council is a horror story. To the extent conversation on this blog might be partially responsible for that impression, because I am the story teller, I would like to correct it.
In contrast to the last Council, there really is no comparison .
I doubt there is a more transparent Council anywhere. We talk about everything. If the decision isn't going the way the Mayor wants it , there's often a deferral and the decision nay well be reversed.
If Councillors allow themselves to be persuaded by something that wasn't discussed in the open
that's transparent.
It's not hard to follow . I think knowing about it is wholesome .
Councillors Gaertner, Gallo and Ballard ,for a reason I cannot fathom, appear to be determined to past battles not their own. Gallo not so much.
They were elected on their own merits. Voters chose them from a slate.
Other candidates would not be wasting precious time trying to get them defeated. Their effort would be taken up trying to get themselves elected.
Why the trio would squander opportunity continuing to fight battles lost is quite beyond
comprehension.
I run for office because I don't know anyone else who would represent me the way I want to be represented. Over the years. there have always been enough people to vote for me to represent them as well.
I revel in the opportunity. But I'm not there to generate a slumber zone around me. I like to feel
electricity. It's how we all know we are alive.
So I contribute to the environment of Aurora Council. People adapt. As long as I'm there everyone gets drawn into the conversation and we all have a jolly time fiercely or not , expounding our various views and no harm done. Sometimes meetings are volatile but mostly vigorous at least.
Why would anybody want it to be different ?
We are alive. Let's enjoy the experience .
It will not come again.
Happy Mother's Day!

I think that comment might have been a reference to that other play in which you are involved. Councillors has pretty well settled in the way they plan to go & residents have a handle on them.We can see their operations - what we cannot see or help with is that other thingee.
There appear to be those among us who resent life and a positive role in it.
This is very sad and we should feel sorry for them.
We are members of a greater community with many things for which to be grateful.
Let's give thanks.
Maybe we should consider ourselves fortunate. Toronto has 43 councillors and can't agree on a transportation policy.
Are the three Morrisites' agendas any less motivated by "past battles" than yours?

I hesitated over your comment & decided it was old news, just the usual quibble.
The agenda is sort of strange. There don't appear to be any speed-bumps. Is is possible that some of the backlog is getting deal with despite the posturing of a few?
Hesitated, 2:46? Only long enough to register a "usual quibble" of your own.
Back at you. Have a Great Mom's Day !!!
As happened in Boston, we are going to see the good and the bad that can occur when social media gets ahead of the police. Hopefully the Canadian version will have a decent ending.
Happy mother's Day, Evelyn. Our cat greeted me with a gift this morning by decapitating a pail of pansies! from the grandkids.

not good, not looking good at all
Be honest. How many of us know our neighbours ? Given the stuff from Ohio, how many of us even really know our own families?
The times have sure changed since people followed battles on a map days after they took place. I find it all very frightening but it is what we have to deal with now,

Labrador byelection is today. Does Harper lose a guy from caucus & put him in the senate?

You're up next, Evelyn, from what the Auroran reports. Best of luck & all that.
Peter McKay must have a head-ache this morning. He guaranteed Peneshau's cabinet seat without including the condition that he first be re-elected. Guess the loser will have to settle for a place in the Senate.
