"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

The Times We LIve In

The  media says the government is refusing to release the formula for calculating  casino hosting fees.

Well of course they are. They don't have a formula. The Premier jumped in with both feet
when she heard  Ottawa Mayor's yelping discontent  and poclaimed all cities woukd be treated equally, The word formula was not used.

Monday morning would have been soon enough to respond to Ottawa's Mayor. After a few relevant queries  had been made. Te first being why is the business of gaming and lotteries managed  by a board rather than by politicians.

Ottawa Mayor's reaction to the hosting fees offered to Toronto is a perfect example.,

It's  also  why there needs to be a formula. and an apolitical body to create  and implement it.
and all the other management policies needed to govern the gambling industry.

Now there's none. Paul Godfrey was asked  to resign for doing his job as it needed to be done and the entire board has resigned , not only in support of Godfrey but a Board  like that can only do its job without political interference.

Andrea Horwath is going to hold a press conference on Tuesday and tell us if  there's going to be a Spring election.

The Premier is hoping  there won't.

Councillor Ballard wants the town to ask Go to send a train north on a Saturday so Toronto Touristos will visit  Aurora Farmer's market.

Town staff are  directed  to seek dispute resolution with Bell on the Cell tower even though it was activated on  April 29th.

And Pamela Wallen has decided to sit as an "Independent" Senator and continue to collect salary and expenses.

This is all like living in a dream.

But it's not a happy one. As a matter of fact it's becoming a nightmare.

And what is really aggravating is that we are paying for it.

If I am going to have to pay for something I would like it to be pleasant, possibly even enjoyable.

Is that asking too much from those we select? If you leave off the "s" that's what we are supposed to be doing.

But the system is broken and those who solicit our votes are all prostitutes.

Technically you require four weeks' notice for an election.

If the NDP leader holds off until May 21 to tell us her party's verdict on the budget, any election that resulted would probably be a Summer affair. And no one wants that!!!

Ballard should gather up all his venomous friends to form a car pool to move Torontonians north to visit our Farmers' Market. But where would they park?

Any successful business venture (OLG?) can only operate without political interference.

Wynne is becoming a Lose very quickly, but Hudak is an even bigger one of those, so we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

This is a no Wynne situation.

Mayor of Ottawa is a former Senior McGuinty Cabinet Minister (Ms Wynne was a Senior Cabinet Minister too) Jim Watson
I'm sure Wynne wouldn't want to give an old crony less than say Rob Ford

If the administration of Aurora was on the ball we might prepare our own casino study. Not just an itty-bitty casino, but on a Macao/Vegas scale, probably $3billion plus.

We have the land, we have the transportation access, we have many millions within a 100 mile radius.

There would, of course, be the casino, but there would also be a 4,000 room hotel, a dozen fabulous gourmet restaurants, theatres, spas, swimming pools, indoor ice sheets for hockey and curling year 'round, tennis courts: you just wish for it and it would be there. And talk about international shopping, only the best of the best. There would also be room for the average person because we are all average. But we can think outside of the average.

Thousands of jobs would be created, our property taxes would be zero and we might all receive a dividend from being Aurora property owners.

And Ballard could drive his own train bringing people to AURORA.

And we would only charge Wynne/successor $40 million per year.
