What's With These Liberals

Michael Ignatieff  was enticed from an academic career  and  his chosen career in  the States. He  identified himself as a resident of that country.

It took the  potential prize of the Prime  Minister Of Canada's office  to lure him home.

He didn't know a damned thing about ordinary Canadians .

 It showed.

It was that and the ongoing  Liberal sponsorship scandals  that landed us with Stephen Harper.

Stephan Dionne , another petulant academic, chosen  for the leadership by the youth wing of the party because they  had control.
Provincial Liberals apparently sent  a recruitment notice to Winnipeg to entice Glen Murray to give up his job as Mayor and come  to Ontario to save  the day  when George Smitherman  made his  mis-calculated bid for the Toronto Mayor's office.

Bob Rae joined  Liberal ranks. They took all he had to  offer and gave nothing in return.

The candidate replacement  has been highly educated outside the country. as apparently has been her
working career . Place of employment is currently New York City.  Are we to assume she commutes to work  from the  Riding of Toronto  Centre.

Do the Liberals presume voters loyal to Bob Rae will  be sufficiently dazzled by academic credentials and  high  employment status in the US. to  switch automatically to their new star.

If  Garcon Joli Trudeau had anything to do with the selection, he may be smoking more pot tMunicipal Councillor encounters people in many professions in the course of  a day's work.

I'm here to tell you. a list of credentials can be  as long as an arm, , if there is no judgement, no common sense,  you got nuthin'

Linda McQuaig has been pouring her heart out and baring her soul for years  on the Canadian scene.

I believe her profession is accountancy but I don't know  details of her credentials.

I've never met her. But I read everything she has to say that I come  across. I listen to every word.

She is a proud Canadian who cares  passionately about making a worthy successor for Bob Rae who served his country well and  left , an unsung hero, with sadness but no bitterness.

If she is elected , she will illuminate whatever space she occupies  in  the halls  and corridor of power.

I just  thought of the irony of  the comment ; " I would rather be dead than NDP"

It's a take off  from the American  jingo when they were determined to save the world from communism  waging a  war in Korea and Vietnam coplete with  Agent Orange and flamethrowers. Killing thousands and sacrificing lives  of  thousands of  young  Americans.   While spending millions of their own resource

They failed.
The world saved itself  espite theit efforts.

  1. This seems over the top and unworthy of you.

Do you blame Preston Manning for Harper?

We need less heart and soul and more mental acuity to deal with the many social and economic problems that beset us. We simply don't have the MONEY and bleeding hearts can not overcome that grim fact.

You have been a fighter on town council for years over foolish and unnecessary spending and in the end you go down to noble defeat time and again. As long as development continues DC's will come, but there will be a day in the not too distant future when there will be no more land to develop. Single houses will need to be purchased and torn down, replaced by medium to high rise to accommodate a growing population. Will these produce DC's or some other form of revenue to a town suffocating?

  3. Evelyn,
I think that you sometimes read too much in to comments. My intent was not a take off of "jingo" Americanism. It was simply that I do not beleive in the left-wing NDP platform. I lived through the Rae years here in Ontario and I would rather not see that happen ever again. Given a choice between living in an NDP state or not living, the latter seems a better option.

I don't think Evelyn has ever stood against sensible development. And she argued at length to try & get get that past lot to think ' up ' along Yonge. We will see who on Council goes into convulsions when the condos currently en route from Timberlane & maybe Oakland Hall hit the table. It sure wasn't Evelyn who opposed ALL developers.

Oh, puleeze ! The Rae years again ! It was a single block in the string of other governments. Sounding a panic button after all these years of other disasters is just a trifle sick.
I am sorry for your loss - but that dog has been buried a very long time.

  6. Bob Rae versus Mike Harris? I know in whose Ontario I'd rather have to *live*.

How very odd. I lived ' through the Rae years ' & recall them very differently. My white hats & black hats are not the same as yours. I saw the state of the economy when they took office [ the #'s had been fudged ] & how they laboured to do their best. The good news is that, depending upon where we vote, my opinion can cancel yours at the polls. Viva democracy such as it is.

  8. 18:40... maybe your rose-coloured glasses have distorted the reality.

We had a guy come into power that thought that he could solve any problem by throwing money at it.

At a point in time, the money ran out. Next thing you know, we have civil workers taking "Rae Days" because they could not afford to be paid.

They did the best they could? They did the best they could within their socialist enevelope. What they found was that socialist ideals are great on paper but reality sucks.

What was really needed was common sense, and after one term, that is what we got.

  9. These party political broadcasts are awfully tiresome.
