Doesn't Know Posterior Orifice from a Hole in the Ground

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Stupid is As Stupid Does":

Thanks for the "news".... When will you and yours get over this? The Hydro building was surplus to the Town. In an effort to not incur costs, parks moved there. It was not a purpose built building for parks.

The QYrR leased this "surplus" building because their own was too old and the Hydro building was available (was it not for sale?).

Clearly you have never dealt with the DND before. Life is not like a box of chocolates with them, what you see is what you get.

And that's all I can say about that.

The building was never surplus. It was never advertised for sale or lease.

It was purpose built for Aurora Hydro and it perfect for the needs of the town parks department.
They were able to build  park furniture and shelters in the winter , for God's  sake.

The fact is  the Department of National Defense was contemplating  shutting down the Aurora Armories. It was their imminent  demise that motivated  the Queen's York Rangers

Leasing the hydro building to the department of national Defense had nothing  whatsoever to do with the interest of the Town of Aurora.

It w as  done contrary to the town's interest.

Twenty million dollars  contrary.

  2. Boy! That was a blast from the past. I wonder who might be so righteously defending that sudden sneaky deal ? It is so funny when they try to re-write history.

  3. Ms Atwood has kicked a hornet's nest. People are really pissed off at her. Since most of us come from immigrant families, that bit about' ' home and native rights ' should go too. Politically correct is such hokum.

Cleary this washed up politician has never dealt with reality or fiscal responsibility before, just wait until you see the full price of this boondoggle. It certainly is what we will get for this misguided decision!!!!

  5. That mess was on the watch of the previous administration. We are supposedly now in a ' new, transparent ' term. I see no reason for not being able to simply read the lease agreement. And, please, don't give me that it is DND policy. Not true. With the internet, all sorts of DNP incompetence has emerged. Purchase agreements, helicopters, fighter jets etc. etc. It is simply a matter of making sure there is no remaining baggage in the town. Then we can just move on.

  6. Sounds like you Councillor Buck might be in for another primer from the Mayor on the running of a business corporation - that is, the Town of Aurora.

Town trucks and equipment need a new garage. Listen up now, here is the lesson - take action now, call the treasurer and get it done. Treasurer can figure out a tax increase to pay for it - people of Aurora have bags of money. Get it from them before the region, the province or feds put their hands out.

If we need advice on any aspect of the project hire a consultant and tack it onto the overall price.

Lesson two is that we don't need logic we need action to run this corporation. Tax increases are a must according to the Mayor and his fuzzy thinking deputy a.k.a Barney Fife. And so what if increases are above the level of inflation; a corporation has to spend money to make money

Dawe and Fife are our business leaders and this is not Mayberry.

  7. 19:52 It has been a long day but...
you are quite correct. The answer for one side of Council is to simply throw taxpayers' money at it. The response from the other side is to try to deny any money except for staff work & hired consultants and to try to preach rigid moral ethics to the exhausted taxpayers. Pox on both sides.
Only Evelyn gets a walk but she knows that already.

  8. It's very frustrating to sit here and follow the the dysfunctional conduct of the present council.

It was such a relief to see the outcome of the municipal election almost three years ago, when the majority of the scum was swept from the stage.

But we have only gone from foul language and threat to a group of people that seems impossibly inept, unable to deal with matters in a common sense and reasonable fashion.

Maybe, as one looks around, the ability of humans to function in a responsible and accountable manner is slipping. Politics and politicians are becoming a game of and for losers, and it is the public that must suffer.

There appear to be no easy answers, just increasingly difficult questions.

The only times I go to the Town Hall are when I pay property taxes and water charges.

There must be something in the air or water in that building that make people behave behave like idiots.

  11. And you, 8:08 ? Or are you content to take shots from the sidelines?
