"It's the best idea we've seen yet."
If you do say so yourself

It has to be the best because it's the only we've seen yet.
There's no mention of a land swap because we (I) have no idea what the Church's plans are.
I don't have any firm idea myself.
But there are a couple of things that suggest we should explore all possibilities.
The Baptist Church is on the corner. St ndrew's Presbyterian Church is a wee bit down the road. The Anglican Church is opposite the town's property.
Most helping services are provided by the Churches. They are probably working together now to make sure they're not duplicating each other's efforts.
The women's shelter is in the vicinity.
For people who need help. it would be a good thing to be able to find it in the same locale.
At this time, the Church really needs to make the most of their assets.
The United Church had a Minister when I was Mayor , John MacKay maybe, He had to retire early for health reasons. I missed him. He talked about a different vision of a Church s mission. He thought the Church should be in a unit in a shopping centre where people are. It should be open and serving seven days a week. It should not just be about Sunday Service.
I know many Churches are about that nowadays. In Aurora, congregations are strong and parishioners are active.
It was heart-breaking when the Church burned . But it does provide for a new beginning.
I think it would be a good thing to examine all possibilities. Swapping land could be one. From the Town's and the Church's perspective a better arrangement might be possible.
It's all about the community....Right.
It might be a chance to do things better.
Seriously, why would the United Church trade their plot - their home for two centuries - for a smaller one a stone's throw away?
ReplyDeleteThey already are close to the churches and other places you listed. There is no benefit moving from Yonge Street over to Victoria. (I just hope they don't decide to leave their home for a bigger lot on the outskirts, and sell their plot to developers.)
Your idea makes no sense.

ReplyDeleteHow do you know there's no benefit? I wish they keep the same location as well. But if they do choose to move I'm sure they would feel that there was a benefit.
An utter waste of the Town and it's staff and councillors time.
ReplyDeleteThere is no place for government to assist this church when they do not assist others.
