Judgement is a precious Commodity

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "I left at 11.10pm":

Are you saying that a place on your much-reviled advisory committees is the same as a Council seat?

I'm saying the process of appointment. is the same  for Committees, library Board ,Committee of Adjustment or any other appointed board or commission.

It is not a Byelection. It is an appointment.

It is not an election by Council. It is an appointment.

In the process ends in a tie vote on Council ,it is not even an appointment .It's a decision by lot.

logistics of a candidate meeting have not been  understood.

Each candidate  was to have ten minutes to speak and  then answer two questions with apparently no limit to length of answers.

Readers may recall a reduction is staffing for economic reasons in January of this year.

Position  eliminated was that of Municipal Clerk  and Elections Officer.

Even in an election year  it was deemed acceptable

Council acted on that advice as well.

  1. It should not be a big deal. Council could have discussed a few names in closed session. I would be astonished if an agreement on a short list could not have be reached. Then, approach the individuals & hope someone is willing to step into the job.

  2. What will they do if they receive no applicants ?

  3. According to the Auroran, Mayor Dawe said they were going to " advertise for the position and tell people what they want." He is fully supportive of the idea which " shows openness and transparency". I must have quit watching before that part.

  5. Appreciating that the law requires the appointment I was surprised at the length of the discussion in terms of how much time it would take at either the July or August Council meeting. I guess with all the inexperience on Council and the new Clerk no one thought of a Special Council Meeting. They are allowed, they are open, they are advertised. Goodness knows there was enough of them last term. Why not call a proper Special Council Meeting and get it done before the July meeting and allow the body in the chair to contribute to the Town's business in July.

  6. Could you please suggest that the Auroran not run photos/political promos of existing politicians holding office and those who would like to become an office holders on the front page.

If I have to look at a face or faces of this species I throw the rest of the paper under the parrot.

    Thanks.
