I haven't finished with the material provided by Anna Kroeplin yet. I have to tell you how an executive is selected, not elected.
It's similar to selection of Vulture Board members and Historical Society Executive.
I heard a story and first wasn't going to tell it . Then I thought about it again. I realised there was
something else there.
It's about the Market Manager.
It seems the manager was twenty-years old and acknowledged a lack of social media skills when her appointment was announced.
It's not town business. It's Market business.
But it pointed to something overlooked.
It wasn't about the young daughter of a sponsor being hired as a manager without adequate skills.
It was about Market promotion and contribution to the well-being of business in competition with Aurora business.
Why would the Town contribute to a business entity, the Market, only to have the entity contribute to Newmarket business that competes with Aurora business.
By the way, I have not yet received the information requested about what the town contributes to the Aurora Farmers Market besides giving them a location, utilities to operate and permits to vend.
I am still trying to figure out why the Market's Kroeplin brought all the negative publicity onto her own patch by refusing to deal with a quite simple problem. It marred the spring launch of the Market quite unnecessarily & may not be over yet.
ReplyDeleteI listened carefully to her presentation & concluded sadly that for a seemingly ambitious, intelligent woman, she was acting against her own best interests & those of the Market.
Please remind me, 14:55, who was the first to appear before Council regarding this "negative publicity"?
ReplyDeleteAs for 'marring' the "spring launch of the Market" - how many attendees know - nevermind care - about this petty spat?
"When Is a Market , not just a Market nor even mainly a Market?"
ReplyDeleteUh, when people have booths and they don't sell food or hand-crafted items?
16:47 & 16:51
ReplyDeleteIt is not the fault of Evelyn's Blog that your wish-list is taking a hit.
& 16:51
How does that real estate salesman fit into your little pigeon boxes ? Sell a lot of food and handi-crafts, does he/she ?
@16:51
ReplyDeleteI do not understand your point.
Do you expect to be able to eat History ?
19:33
ReplyDeleteIf it is a market, make it a market. Quit selling "tours". Quit selling (or giving away) one person's perspecitive of history.
I remember going to the farmers' market as a kid (in a different city) and all that was there was food. That is what we need, leave the culture to other enterprises.
19:33
ReplyDeleteDid you have a bad day ?
A combination works very well in most cases. This particular one tends to be non-inclusive when it is not necessary or wise.
NB: 08:16 is not 16:51.
ReplyDeleteHow the heck does a small little farmers market become this political bouncing ball. I agree with one of the past commenters description. I believe they used the word was "embarrassing". Where is the councillor who is suppose to represent this market?
ReplyDelete14:16
ReplyDeleteThat woud be Cllr Sandra Humfryes.
One never knows quite where she is.
Only that she gets really excited and enthuses over just about everything.
14:16
ReplyDeleteWHY do we need a councillor responsible for the market in the first place? That is what got us into this mess. Do we have a councillor responsible for other business that elect to do business in Aurora? Why can't the market vendors just get a permit from the Town office and leave it at that. Anyone that has something to sell can do it. I think we have made this whole thing more complex than it should be. It is just a market.
The manager who is a daughter of a sponsor is important. It speaks to nepotism. We had that when the Santa in the Christmas parade was a relative of an elected member of council.

ReplyDeleteWho suggested that was the case ? They are totally different.
