The World Forty Years On has left a new comment on your post "Advice ... Warning.....or Threat.?":
The Aurora of which you were mayor four decades ago, isn't the Aurora of today. Neither is the mayor's job.

ReplyDeleteWhat's the saying:
"if we don't learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat it". So what you're saying is that we need to wipe the slate clean and start all over (no history to revert back too). Does that mean we need all new councillors and a mayor with no previous experience, no history in Aurora. I'm not saying Evelyn is right or wrong and I don't always agree with her opinion, but we need different perspectives, young and old, "new" Aurorans and "old" Aurorans, male & female. We can't do things just because that's the way it's always been done. And yet on the other hand at times, we shouldn't try to fix things that are not broken. What's the answer? You know what's probably consistent from 40 years ago?? That everyone still has the same problems, everyone still complains to their councillor, everyone thinks they have the right answer. There are always going to be potholes and repairs needed to town facilities. Taxes are going up and services (at least in their perspective) are going down. Yonge & Wellington was probably a mess back then too. Same old problems but now on a bigger scale - same old shi*.

ReplyDeleteI agree. Same old problems…same old shi*. But…the characters are different. The potholes and repairs will always be there…but how much is it going to cost us? What will our taxes be next year? What debt will we incur? Then throw in this “improve the quality of life” bull shi*! These will all be determined by the characters that we choose.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. The important thing is that we realize that there are no quick fixes and the needs to just keep the town running. What we do not need is a bunch of expensive unnecessary window dressing and mega-projects that benefit a few.
And, no, I am not putting forth the names of any candidates who might solve the problems. It will have to be a group effort.
Crown wants 4-6 months for Joe F.
ReplyDeleteConditional sentence - no jail time.
ReplyDeleteHouse arrest...Not bad. He'll just sit at home and wait for his $80,000/yr pension cheque. Nice. I'm sure there's more to this story then what we're lead to believe. A whole lot more.

ReplyDeleteIf it is tight, he won't even be able to chat with a neighbour over the fence. Not sure about having visitors in or alcohol in-take. Travel may be tricky in the future as he has those convictions.
Rogers is doing boys' sports tonight. not showing council until 11 tomorrow morning
ReplyDeleteHouse arrest is not the same since the advert of the computer. I know people who would love it. Everyone would have to take care of them while they wrote " my book."
ReplyDeleteHey why can't I get Aurora council meetings on my Bell Fibe service?
ReplyDeleteWho at the Town do I speak to about that??
