I sure hope you're not surprised. The ramifications of your lawsuit sealed your demise. The presentation from the insurer's representative, aided by the mayor and his deputy, served as a pre-election reminder (you got schooled by a couple of rookies on that one).
While it is your right to seek legal redress, anyone could see the hypocrisy of a self-proclaimed defender of taxpayers' money causing the Town significant expense for purely interes

I 'm still reading debate on Bill 52
"...for purely personal interests."
ReplyDeleteSomeone missed the boat - Evelyn's action had nothing to do with the hike in insurance rates. That was all from previous legal shenanigans.
ReplyDeleteCould we all just take a break here ?
"Someone missed the boat..."
ReplyDeleteYeah, you did, 18:40. Did you also miss the pie chart with the $845,000 (ongoing) expenditure?
Those are harsh words for someone who placed 9th in a field of 28 when there were 2 very obvious sides and no room in the middle.
ReplyDeleteWe supporters should have tried a bit harder, done a bit better.
Evelyn. Must you share some of these ignorant commenters? Please hit delete when you get these fools in your inbox.
ReplyDelete19:42
ReplyDeleteThe pie chart I recall best is the one presented by the Centre. It showed what percentages of revenue came from different sources but neglected to mention that there would be no pie to divide if the town were not contributing the building and services.
Ballard voted in favour of the anti-SLAPP legislation - guess he plays with the one who pays the piper.
ReplyDelete19:42- You better check your pie chart again. Its comments like yours that prove how people can justify and believe BS. Shameful.
ReplyDelete10:00
ReplyDeleteHe must have eaten a bit of crow when Ms Jones cited the Aurora case as an example of why we need that legislation in place.
Ballard can easily justify his stance with the anti-slapp act. He will just tell you that his friend was justified with her litigation. Done! What else is the newbie politician to do…vote against? I did have a good laugh when I read his statement; I just wish I could have actually seen it.
ReplyDeleteDo try to stay on topic, 09:50. You run the risk of missing another boat.
ReplyDeleteThe ACC is just duplicated services taking bread out of the mouths of others.FACT
Delete12:12
ReplyDeleteEspecially when her refers to his " career " in journalism. A short tenure with Ron during which he was allowed to put a single paper together & filled it with photos & praise for Guess-Who.
What is BS, 11:46? When the insurance company representative made his presentation to Council, the legal costs for the defendants of the Buck litigation stood at $845.000 (and counting). The insurer was bearing those costs, resulting in higher premiums to be paid by the Town.
ReplyDeleteDo you dispute any of the above, 11:46? Where does the "shameful" part come in?
15:04- oh boy.... where have you been? Obviously... busy eating pie.
ReplyDelete@15:04
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why you swallowed that bilge from the spokesman.
Maybe you noticed he avoided all mention of possible offers to settle but inferred that the rates " might " go down if this happened. Complete garbage.
So, 17:17 and 18:11, I don't see you correcting any information - nor, it must be said, is Mrs Buck (who is publishing the comments with which you take issue).. The facts stand.
ReplyDeleteInsurance rates never go down, Your only hope is to shop them around.
ReplyDeleteSettlement? Who here expected Evelyn Buck would settle? You all have a sense of her - she concedes nothing.
ReplyDeleteShe wanted redress against those that she felt had wronged her. She needed retribution; her pound of flesh. There was no way in hell she would have settled with that lot!
ReplyDeleteIf you're in the insurance business it's not to make friends, it's to make a profit.
The insurance company is paying the legal bills of the six defendants. It then charges the town a higher annual premium, expecting to eventually recover the legal bills, and then some.
We all know that the huge impact on Aurora's insurance rates did not originate with Ms. Buck. It came from the large number of cases initiated by a single council of which she was a member and scape-goat.
ReplyDelete5:19
ReplyDeleteYeah, we know but nothing can be done about it.
Have a good holiday and forget about that nest.
Not only duplicating services from private Aurora businesses but duplicating services that the Town offers! I hoping that this council has the courage to correct this wrong.
ReplyDeleteSo many have been victims of that previous council including its residents, and continue to do so. Those who imply or believe that Ms. Buck is the cause for the insurance rates need to give their heads a few shakes. How many times did she tried to put a stop to all their ludicrous and self serving motions?
ReplyDeleteTrue, 09:49, but her subsequent suit has continued and compounded those exorbitant legal expenses.
ReplyDeleteFALSE, 05:19. You're just parroting one of Mrs Buck's canards. Obviously, neither of you are familiar enough with the events and programmes to be able to render a categorical statement.
ReplyDelete9:49
ReplyDeleteDitto
Not to worry, 20:22, she's still pretty selective with the old Publish button.
ReplyDelete9:49 and 20:02
ReplyDeleteIt must be the holiday season. You have consumed too much egg nog or sherry infused fruit cake.
The insurance is paying for the defence of 1 sitting councillor and a bunch of former members of council. As members of council when the suit was started, they are covered by the Town's insurance.
Once this suit is complete, the full impact of this insurance claim will be realized. Rates will increase for sure. And when it's all over, who will benefit? Certainly not the Town or it's residents.
18:47
ReplyDeleteHow would you know such a thing ?
According to all available information. no settlement offers are even on the table this holiday season.
Yicks - this is giving me whip-lash ! I simply cannot keep the participants straight.
ReplyDeleteall of you, take a flipping break.
17:19- Not false! You may want to take a look around town and look at the programs that are being offered by the private sector as well as the Town’s programs. The only thing that ACC will be offering that is different is a museum, which is what the building was originally for. So please…get your head out the small cultural world you may live and take a good look at all the parroting the ACC is doing with the rest of Aurora.
ReplyDeleteThe “defendants” (lmao) of this suit don’t want this to end. They certainly don’t give a damn about the tax payers. Why would they? The insurance is paying for it. There’s still one person that sits on council (LMAO) Why not a word or two with her? Not an offer of settlement nor a simply apology has been offered!! Start pointing fingers elsewhere, like maybe the ones who created this shameful mess in the first place.
ReplyDeleteUnless I have missed something, Ms Buck's action is not the only residue from that ugly council. Last I heard the former mayor was demanding more money on top of all what she has already received for her failed defamation attempt. If you are looking for someone who refuses to settle, that would be the person to whom I would direct you.
ReplyDeleteAnybody think about who is paying and how much Evelyn!'s legal bill is? Why is the town not paying her fees?
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteYesterday was the shortest day of the year.
The days are getting longer now.
It's six months to summer.
Yeah!
13:08, I live in a large "cultural world"...as do you, if you'd only be open to it.
ReplyDelete@15:44
ReplyDeleteHer choice, her cost.
18:14- our wallets are being pried opened to keep those doors opened at that center.
ReplyDeleteBut, apparently, not your minds, 00:01.
ReplyDeleteThe building was hijacked...FACT.
DeleteMy mind and money are opened to those in this Town that provide these services privately and to those programs that Town already provides. I've known artists in this Town that have been shrugged off from the Center. It also uses instructors from outside of Town when there are so many talented and willing instructors here. I'd look within the center for those who have closed minds.
ReplyDelete11:03
ReplyDeleteIt is sort of like a religious cult where they can feel misunderstood by those who object to their methods.
What's more like a "religious cult," 11:19, is the zealotry of the anti-Cultural Centre minority.
ReplyDeleteDunno where to pot this
ReplyDeleteThe coons are awake and about - mind how you store your garbage......
Geranium homes to build in Highland Gate. What a shocker.
ReplyDelete12:33
ReplyDeleteIt was inevitable. The ratepayers there might make a small difference but not much. The lot around Timberlane are going about the thing the wrong way,
Oh 12:15....eventually the moneywell will run dry.
ReplyDelete22:10
ReplyDeleteI agree. There are far too many initiatives coming into play. The attention and funding are going to be elsewhere. I think councillors are pretty sick of hearing about the Centre and its needs. It has peaked, has nowhere to go but down.
16:01, it is only going to get better and better. What people "are pretty sick of hearing about the Centre" is the criticism and negativity about it emanating from this small corner.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the interested parties have moved on and are getting down to things. It's only a few here amongst Mrs Buck's resentful retinue that is still chewing on sour grapes.
Better and better eh? And we know this how? Oh yeah!... your board will tell us! Now that's funny.
