There are too many conflicts of interest in our complicated society.
Do we believe anyone or anything?
Truth and trust are two words lacking from our vocabulary.

Today's society is bombarded with information. Particularly rules and regulations about what used to be matters of personal judgement.
To be judged accordingly by electors.
Transparency and openness may be the most over-used words in our lexicon, having nothing to do with truth ,trust or personal judgement.
Not surprisingly, politicians have different version of truth and separate understanding of trust .
Citizens have altered expectations of politicians.
Conflicts of interest do exist between well-being of community-at-large and entitlement.
It's always been that way. But the pendulum has shifted . Entitlement has the upper hand.
To-days politicians are hand-maidens.
To meet the change, ordinary citizens have to pay more attention and work harder to make sense if it all.
A lot less trusting and a deal more independent thinking.
Fortunately, it becomes a habit
ReplyDeleteDid you remember that today is the American national holiday to commemorate Martin Luther King?
Or unfortunately. Canadians seem to hunker down and just try to get though their days with as little interference from the politicians as they can manage. We simply do not open the windows and holler that we have had enough. It does not seem to be in the genetics so far. Maybe it will turn up but I do not see it yet....
ReplyDeleteWhen you only have to cater to 1/3 of the electorate, keep your basic services in tact...a politicians job can be quite easy. Pretty sad.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post by Anna

When is the Town going to do something with its communications dept.? The Environmental dept. needs some help as well. Anna seems like she'd be great for the job.

ReplyDeleteProblem with that is that she does not tolerate BS. Could have easily been elected with the 1st Dawe group.
21:03 - I was talking about getting her on town staff. I can't count the number of times how the communication dept. has failed and continues to do so. I've never met Anna, yet I've read 2 of her posts about garbage, and I know more about garbage then anything I've read in any paper, town or regions website.
ReplyDeleteGeez...An Auroran with Town staff, what a novel idea.

ReplyDeleteYou do realize that you are suggesting a local resident be given a decent job in the Town Hall ? That we could use some of our own talent and local under standing to help ?
Staffing is a rigid, strict deal here now. You must qualify for " their " TEAM. It reminds me of the book : " Not Wanted On Board "

ReplyDeleteJust because someone makes a blog entry that you agree with does not mean that she would be good on Town Staff.
When you work in an organization like that, there is internal politics, manager and peer pressures. One person does not change the direction.
11:12- How do you know that she would be the lone wolf to make a change. She might be the “one” to be able to set a new course. All I was trying to say was that we obviously have a communication problem at the Town and or Region. And it’s been a problem for a while. Fix it! Oh…and you don’t have to look very hard or far to do so.
