Any time there's a gap in posts, you can be sure there are three or four drafts that didn't get published.
If the ideas expressed are too depressing ,I am not inclined to share . Everybody has stuffto cope with.
I am working on Heather to write a blog about the ongoing story of having a baby, a boy,now a man like Adam in the family. We didn't have social media when he was born. He will soon be thirty years old.
Adam is Heather and Andy's first born. Two brothers and a sister followed so he has always been there as older brother.
When brother Aaron was about twelve he had to teach a teacher. An assigned essay was handed in. The teacher took it upon herself to make a correction. Teacher learned something from student
that day.
Aaron has many fine qualities I particularly admire.
This journey has been on-going learning experience for all of ua. Adam has been our teacher.
He continues to amaze and entertain .The day he was born he contradicted conventional wisdom
and has been doing it ever since.
But social media allows so much to be shared. Many new parents do not know what to expect and
social supports provided is often informed by text books.Themselves limited by the mindset of an author without the experience of a family.
As parents, Heather and Andy have quietly, steadily and persistently worked to make a difference in the lives of their children. They kept the faith and pioneered. They found hope, encouragement and success all along the way.
It may not be the same everywhere . The experience needs to be shared for the greatest benefit
Adam's thirtieth birthday is at the end of May.
A good time to launch a Blog
I see it as a book with the entire family involved as they were.
ReplyDeleteGo for it. There is so much garbage out there by " experts "
ReplyDeleteBecause you have to experience this life, to be able to lead and educate. The doctor my sister has, and was present that day back when Adam was born, have led a very educationally enlightening experience together. Each bringing Adams life experiences and expectations to the table. Adam was the first Down Syndrome baby he had delivered. They have learned together, he was only to happy to be a partner in this journey. It can only enhance your life experience. All of our families children are blessed to have Adam in their lives. I believe they are all much more accepting of differences of the people who enter their lives, whether for a minute or a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteAn individual who is educated or taught about a disability and has not actually lived the life, in my opinion, is not an expert at all. It's all theory. You have to walk the walk and talk the talk to truly understand the situation.
Heather and Andy and their family are experts. They provide support to each other and to other parents. I am so very proud of what my sister and Andy have accomplished because of having Adam enriching their lives every day. Trials and tribulations, like every family, are always present.
Another blog I will faithfully and fondly follow. Adam's life journey has been an inspiration to all of his extended family. Last week we became 51 strong and Adam will continue to be an influence on us all.
Just thinking of Adam puts a smile on my face and another ray of sunshine in my heart.
GO STRONG HEATHER, YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO TEACH THIS WORLD IF THEY ARE WILLING TO LISTEN.
