Years after Queens' York Rangers abandoned the musty smelly old shed on the north -east corner of the town park , the sign outside was promoting the great life the military had to offer.
Every time I passed I wondered how the government would manage without the young people who sign up in response to the slogan.
The last several months the Honourable Member John Baird seems to have been on the road constantly on behalf of the government.
It seems a plan to make Canada a player in International affairs is part of the government's political strategy.
A former Prime Minister of Australia is reported to be seeking Mr. Baird's support to bring the WHO organization of the United Nations up to scratch.
The question occurs if Mr. Baird committed to being thousands of miles from home on a regular basis when he campaigned for his Nepean seat in the last election. In all his twenty years in office he has never been far from home.
Knowing something of Prime Minister Harper's proclivity for control ,one wonders if Mr Baird
was given a choice.
If not, his sudden and unexpected resignation from a Cabinet post and exit from politics would make perfect sense.
.
Hmmm. Now we wait for the other shoe to drop.

I found it astonishing that he did not warn the PM that he was planning the " step down ". Guess there is no love lost there.
I think Mr. Baird has simply decided that it's time he once again became the master of his own ship.
You can only sail for so long as first mate, no matter how convivial the relationship with the captain.
The fact that he lasted nine years speaks to his tenacity of character.
But I still don't like the man, and the fact that the captain is going to be really scrambling to find a non-satisfactory replacement brings joy to my heart.
The Auroran is up early
