15:16- I can see why candidates could have gotten upset with the vandalism of their signs. They do cost a lot of money to purchase, many hours from early morning to late evenings week days and weekends in all sorts of weather conditions. Candidates had family members, friends, neighbors giving their time to this task. Evelyn is right. It's all part of campaigning, but I can see why it was upsetting to some.

Everybody gets upset when signs are vandalized. One learns from the experience.
Signs are expensive. Maintenance is hard work.
Holding off on signs on public property means a shorter maintenance period.
Plastering the town with signs makes upkeep virtually impossible.
Damaged signs must be removed or replaced promptly.
The fewer and more strategically placed the more easily managed.
Signs on private property may not be as visible but they are less liable to vandalism.
They are also a declaration of support.
Like everything else there are lessons to be learned.
Setting oneself up for slights and hostilities that are not there is not helpful. It feels personal.
Whining and complaining does not make a favourable impression.
Casting about for someone to blame is even worse.
Pick yourself up.
Dust yourself off .
Start all over again.

Most of them have vanished with a "poof " of hot air. I doubt if there will be such a long list of contenders again.
ReplyDeleteSOME MEMORABLE ELECTION MOMENTS: Pullano was probably the worst complaining about his signs being vandalized, his signs were still around the town left month after; someone bothered to enhance Gallo's face, so every time I was passing by I wanted to wipe his tooth so badly with the clinex, he just looked so evil; Mrakas started with some vertical signs that stood above others not sure what to think about them but they looked like the signs at car dealerships; I noticed Thompson's were blocked by some newbies sign, he never bother fixing, that was kind of nice; few times at night I also noticed bodies in the dark clothes on town corners when the signs were placed, look like some night gardeners fixing flowers; Sandra and her big heart :) may be that's what did it; if anyone want's Arshads free signs visit Joint opp centre, on the south fence there are few still hiding, can't miss them; Evelyn yours, while others were flying in the wind, were rooted deeply in the ground (you must have reused the big ones?); and lastly I saw Svetla walking with construction jacket and big hammer around building her platform. And that was our Town during election.

ReplyDeleteIt was fun for those of us who are out and able to watch the shenanigans. I did think someone should have managed to catch at least one sign vandal.
There was a clear division and we lost Evelyn because she held to the middle ground. I should have worked harder at being a pest with my new neighbours but they were clearly not interested in local politics. Lousy time of year for elections.
