KA-NON
I am not 17:21, but I agree that his/her question has some validity.
THEY are not hiding behind the town's insurance. That coverage is automatic. As someone being sued, you would expect two things. One, to prove innocence and Two, to not have to pay for any expenses if at all possible.
You don't have to like the people involved, but that is the system and they are using it to the full extent.
Evelyn has chosen to sue them, she has had opportunity to settle but continues on. She ran her campaigns on saving money for the tax payer. This does exactly the opposite. She needs to rationalize that for me. That is why she did not receive my vote last fall.

The information sought can only be provided by the town's insurance company.
The first VP who attended on Council revealed little. The second offered selective information.

Normal company policy is to aim for a settlement, he said.
No reason offered for normal policy not being followed.
$845,000 spent on legal fees. Having unlimited draw for legal
fees is hardly an incentive to settle.Excessive costs incurred was the reason for 41% premiumincrease. The first V.P. who attended did not give that answer. Previous premiums were
inadequate to cover wide ranging changes in the industry

I am informed the insurance company initially denied liability. That certainly presents as logical in the circumstances .
Elected officials are protected against suits filed for corporate decisions. The action I filed was not against the corporation.
The initial insurance company decision was reversed. Defence Counsel was provided to the defendants.
Weeks later, the defendants chose different counsel.
Litigation involves more than one party. As does Settlement.
A settlement was reached before trial with the Aurora Banner,
A party to the defamation suit.
The remaining matter is before the court and must be decided by the court.
I have expended substantial resources to defend principles
Important to me.
I regret I failed to win the trust of so many in the election.
I do not accept responsibility for senseless, exorbitant and excessive waste of public resources.
You do not need to justify yourself to a troll who does not appear to have ever been elected to anything anywhere.

ReplyDeleteI can see it as a nasty school proctor but they are appointed.
I agree with 17:39. In fact I can't express enough appreciation with all that you've done in this suit. The outcome if all goes well will set precedent for any other low lives that want to pull the same crap as they've done to you.

ReplyDeleteDear Evelyn:
Perhaps you find this whole exercise of revisiting an extremely vile incident that impacted directly on your life and character as a form of catharsis.
There is no point replaying what was done and said by whom several years ago. All of us who lived in Aurora at that time are familiar with those scum, and do not want or need to have their names paraded about.
You have many, many good memories of many, many years that you can write about. Things that you experienced, things that you did and saw and places that you visited, as a part of your political life or as a part of your personal life, and that of your family, about whom you write so lovingly.
Please consider this request seriously as I now flinch whenever I click onto your blog, and I don't think I should be doing this.
The 70% of the electorate failed you Evelyn in not voting. The outcome would have been different if they did.
ReplyDelete19:03- I understand what you're trying to say. But understand that there have been many who are asking either direct questions or stating facts that are quite twisted. Evelyn has been gracious enough to answer these questions or setting the record straight to those who ask and to those who have twisted the facts. Much of this history is still not over.
ReplyDelete20:23- You mentioned twisted facts twice. Please cite which facts and how they were twisted.
ReplyDeleteEvelyn you have every right to defend yourself against those bullies.I only wish I had the resources to take them on.My life has not been the same since three of them verbally , physically, and legally threatened me.I used to think Aurora was a wonderful place but a few, yes a few can taint your outlook.

ReplyDeleteNot to mention that this particular topic has not been discussed for ages. There have been plenty of other subjects covered.
19:03 Have you ever heard the term "Closure" until there is a decision on the case, there will be no closure and this issue is not fuzzy and warm it has taken a toll on a great many people but my mother the most. The decision to sue was not a decision made frivously. You have no idea the impact it has had on this family, you have no idea the impact on my niece who was there at a meeting to collect an aware only to have the marred by the insanity that took place that night. So until there is closure I applaud my mother for continuing to make people aware of the hatred that exists in this world. I actually think there should be maybe a "Violet Day" to raise awareness to the brutality of the bullying that went on during that particular term of office.
ReplyDeleteI have another idea 19:03... Don't click on the blog until you know there has been a decision. Save yourself before it is too late, nobody can do it for you.
ReplyDelete@00:39
ReplyDeleteHow about this for twisted facts. Mayor Dawe and Cllr Abel, in what was clearly a politically timed initiative, twisted the facts regarding the cause of the legal costs the town's insurance company is incurring defending Wilson et al, with the intention of placing the responsibility for these costs on Evelyn rather than where it belongs.
Auroran is up

ReplyDeleteTheresa:
I'm not concerned about saving myself. I am not charged with anything.
I'm just sick and tired of getting this old crap rehashed ad infinitum.
The long overdue judge's decision may or may not go into great and lengthy detail by way of self-justification.
So we may have to do a lot of reading and have this old sore reopened.
And I am quite sure that Evelyn will write reams and reams about the decision, whichever way it goes.
So for the purpose of self-preservation from these potential reams I am going to remove the blog from my computer until the end of June.
The Auroran will probably provide a fairly concise summary of the judge's decision.
Have a nice day.

ReplyDeleteNice of you to defend your mother.
That being said, picking up an award at a council meeting is a bit of a waste of time for the council in the first plce. That should be done in a separate time and place. The fact that the blonde from the 'burbs had the floor was not pre-organized - although you think it may have been.
Violet Day? Please. There is no brutality. Please provide documented proof not "So and so said a bad word to me".
Hmmm. Seems these days, just about everyone is claiming to being, or having been, bullied. Which begs the question; if everyone is the victim, then who's actually doing the bullying?
ReplyDelete"Bullying awareness" - every time there's another day/event to mark this perceived scourge of our modern society, the only folks who really win are the pink shirt manufacturers. I think most are simply deaf to all this "constant awareness" now.

ReplyDeleteYou constantly claim to know the entire story.
You are therefore constantly in error.
I very much doubt if any of the principals or even subordinates involved give you the time of day.
Much less important personal details.
12:48
ReplyDeleteWho said anything about knowing the entire story?
You constantly read into things that are not said.
You didn't think that council meeting where Evelyn’s family came to see her get an award and then witnesses what happened to Evelyn wasn't brutal? I’m not a family member and it made me disgusted.
ReplyDeleteThat was planned and executed exactly the disgusting way it happened. It was absolutely brutal
It was live on Rogers, placed in local newspapers and on the town of Aurora website, how much more documented proof do you want, biut digress, it's not worth an argument with someone who would request documented proof...Jeesh! !

ReplyDeleteYou say you are leaving but I will still respond to you.
You claim that this process has taken too long & you are tired of hearing about it. May I point out that very recently, like last week or so, a crowd of angry residents were at council to protest a decision that they knew existed 20 years ago regarding development over on Bayview.
Evelyn's case has taken too long but history is never made in a day.
