HOW TO MAKE A MESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING

So ...I heard stuff about  newly elected leader of the  Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown yesterday.

He is thirty-five years old. Has been an M.P. In the Harper Party for the past four years.

Before that he was a ward alderman in the City of Barrie . He is said to be a lawyer. He was  elected at twenty-four years  of age without ever practicing law. Not sure what kind of a lawyer it is who does not practice law.

He has never been married and has no children.

He is said to be pro-life and against same sex marriage.

His father and grandfather were/are solid N.D.P. supporters.

He sold 70,000 memberships to win the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party.

He acknowledged  during the vote he has does not have the confidence  of the party establishment.

He also does not have a seat in the Ontario legislature.

The last person who won the leadership without a seat was John Tory. An M.L.A. stepped  aside to allow him to run in a byelection in a safe Conservative Seat. John Tory  lost the safe Conservative seat for the Ontario Party.

Can't say I remember John Tory ever actually functioning as leader of the Conservative party.

If he did , it sure wasn't long enough to make any kind of a mark.

  1. A "Lawyer" does not have to practice law. I know someone who is a lawyer and works in HR. Is this a strike against him?

Not married/no children - not a bad thing for someone that is looking to devote time to the job.

Prolife/against same sex marriage. Everyone has their opinions.

Father and grandfather supported NDP. Hell I know a former councillor who used to be an NDP Candidate!

John Tory was looking for a corination... the public had no stomach for it.

  2. You know, after reading the above, even Kathleen Wynne starts looking better, although she is a complete catastrophe.

Who, or what Spirit, have we so mortally offended as to get this non-lawyer lawyer as the provincial leader of what was once, in the days of Bill Davis, a capable and responsible party, with a leader that all could admire regardless of party affiliation.

How does one sign up 70,000 "members?" Membership in what? It's not worth the paper its written on, or is it a LIKE?

You could probably Twitter your way to 100,000.

  3. Well...it's early in this term, and as expected Wynn and her clan have continued on with the McGuinty legacy. He's going to have a real mess to clean up.

  4. But he certainly is making his mark as Mayor. Some people should just stay out of politics.

  5. The members of this party should all be in a playpen.

  6. It is deemed prudent to be a lawyer if you are going to be in politics.. Easier to get a job when you retire on a nice pension when things look bad for you.

Otherwise the entire thing is an exercise in futility.

  12. Lawrence Martin's op-ed column in today's Globe and Mail is headed:

If integrity is the issue, the Tories are finished

"Let's say an audit is bing done on you or your organization and that the audit could land you in deep trouble. It could possibly lead to criminal charges. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just order up changes in the audit? How about having the offending paragraph deleted?

But even if you could, you wouldn't want to take the risk. If you got caught, you would be in worse trouble, your credibility and integrity shattered.

Which brings us to the Prime Minister's Office. If we are to believe the evidence, this is in fact what top officials in the highest office in the land did in handling the Senate expenses controversy. They took an extreme risk and are now getting caught. As for impact on integrity, time will tell and will probably spell hell."

I have come to the conclusion that the prime minister has an extra gland, one that we don't have. It is called a CRAPPE gland. It appears to infect those who spend lots of time in his presence, or who are appointed to high position by him. Fortunately neither has occurred with me, so I am safe.

  13. And you think he's the only politician that has that gland?

He is the one doing the most to injure Canada and Canadians.

They threw away the model after creating his and all that is left are design and working models, each of which is capable of mini CRAPPE gland production, but none has the power of the original.

Obviously these weakened glands find their way to other politicians.
