"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

THE GAME IS UP

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "WHAT CONFLICT ? WHOSE INTEREST?":

From the dearth of comments from blog readers I would interpret that as a request to move on.

We are all tired of living in the past.

*****************************************'.

Comments are moderated. Not all received are published. I do the moderating.. Me,myself alone.

I write and publish the blog.

I am no longer a Councillor. Nothing I have to say is governed by the over-riding responsibility to the community I serve.

I am free, white and twenty-one. There's  a blast from the past which might offend in these days of political correctness. Undoubtedly it will be fastened upon.

But it has the right tone of nonchalance and I can't claim to be black or brown. Everyone knows I'm white.

I am the author of the blog.

I write what I judge to be relevant.  I make the judgement about comments published.

I appreciate the sentiment of many that I don't publish.

The blog is powerful. Maybe too much so.

If the anonymous. comment is too strongit may not be published  on the blog under my name.

Like it or lump it or mark it with B
Or click on the switch Jack and watch your T.V.

I have cut and copied the above comment to make the point .....once more with feeling.

I write the blog. I check the stats. Numbers spike with contentious town  issues.

As do the squeals of protest ,dismissal and  name-calling.

They tell me when my lance has found its mark and pierced the epidermis.

These  moments are sweet.

My grand-daughter Robyn has just arrived. I haven't seen her since she came back from a wedding in Warsaw,Poland and a week in London and environs.

I need to hear all she has to tell me  and know if she saw anything that made her want to live there.

Hey, Lady, You got plenty of votes and darn near got elected again. And it was a squeaker with you between the 2 groups. Your opinion still counts.......
Enjoy the cooler nights - more hot stuff on the way but August is usually better

Well...I'm one of those Evelyn decided not published a few comments (many actually). I'm sure it was because I came on a little strong (ok...maybe very strong). Most recent was about the lawyer thing. After posting, I kinda had second thoughts but knew Evelyn being a lot wiser than myself would make the call to post or not. And of course she did, and decided not post. Thank you Evelyn. Love this blog, especially your posts of the past. Keep them coming!!!

What you you supposed to write about to please these people ? Something exciting about a group of tennis nuts objecting to sharing a town park with a community garden because it might cause parking difficulties ?

Me too. I took a swing at the lawyers also.

A blog is only powerful if it is offensive.

But not libellous.

If that is the same bunch that rejected a tennis bubble, phooey on them .
This is Aurora. We can deal with parking issues.
Sp what if they have to walk a bit further to exercise. It's better for their knees,

Hey 14:58

Coffee shore is gettin' dear 'round these here parts, ain't it

Yup, yer "daRn" tootin'...

Libelous or offensive is all subject to interpretation. Society really has to lighten up and suck it up. We teach or kids to be strong, to believe and be confident with themselves. Well take a good look in the mirror everyone! All I see is a very insecure society, who have no problem pointing fingers at everyone else, who have entitlement and accountability issues. We have bigger problems with the future of our children than the poor education that they're receiving in the public and post secondary school system, and the so called lack of jobs.

Why is the Town forcing residents to pay $5 to go to the Ribfest when there are bands in the twilight of their careers performing? What happens like last year when a severe thunderstorm comes through and cancels the night?

Anonymous said...

Ribfest is having trouble. There was a large article in the Globe that their monopoly on the event is being challenged fairly successfully. I am not sure if the town is the one doing the charging ? But you could be right. I just do not know.

09:32, are you suggesting that this blog's moderator should have 'sucked it up' rather than commencing her lawsuit?

Anonymous said...

12:55
Ahhh...Absolutely NOT. Her treatment on council was beyond libelous and offensive. In fact I was disgusted and sickened at what happened in council that one evening when her family was there to see an award given to her. There was no other way than to interpret that performance as anything other than hateful. I will never forget it.

12:55 - YES!

@ 9.32
I disagree and will provide a recent example.
At the Rogers Cup yesterday, a player trash-talked another during his match.
He has since been fined and may be fined even more.
Apologies have been made and hopefully this will not happen again.
No sucking up required.

Bad leadership, and it is coming from Mayor Dawe. Unfortunate. Evelyn deserves more, and more should have been done that night to celebrate her life long career in politics.

No leadership at all that I can see since the COA left and it is increasingly clear why he left. It is going to be a long and costly period.

Anonymous said...

18:48- He's going to wish he stayed. He's making more money there, but he's going to learn soon enough, he's entered a snake pit.

17:26
Are they making him wear a suit jacket ?

Anonymous said...

I've heard the same.

@17:26
I did read about the some of the nastiness there but figured we had enough on our plates.

My mom fills me in, she lives in that Town, as I and the rest of my siblings talk about the politics in each others Towns in this Region. It really is remarkable the type of politics and information you can gather once you talk to other Towns in this Region. You really do see a pattern of gross overspending, the entitled, miscommunication, no communication, no accountability and the backstabbing.
