"Reboot their asses right our (sic) of the town hall."
Could that be because your were an unsuccessful council candidate in the last election?

************************************************************
What are the chances?
It's not worth the time to check precisely but there may have been fifteen unsuccessfulcandidates from thousands of potential voters.
After a year and a half, the likelihood is slim to nil the criticism came from a poor loser.
On the other hand, chances are the comment came an elected Councillor.
I know a few who obsess about nothing except the previous election and the next and in between nothing at all about WHY they were elected.
What is the function of a Councillor?
Is it service to the community or service to self?
We hear how important it is for Council to fight to uphold the Town's Official Plan and questionable subdivision agreements.
Resources were expended for legal costs and inappropriately taken from a reserve fund,
to acquire 6 acres of land which were never identified as needed for municipal purposes.
Mavrinac homeowners would have to acknowledge the issue was contrived for the election.
Votes were won and lost on a battle to stop the land from being developed.Maybd as few as forty-nine.
The acquisition has been totally repudiated by expert advice.
Still we have seven Councillors rejecting advice bought and paid for, and voting to create a park.
Ye Gods! How low can you go in accountability?
Another asset is moved from black to the red side of the ledger.
How is the municipal interest served ? How insulting to the taxpayers?
Millions spent on professional administration, theoretically to ensure efficient management of the corporation, only to watch, on camera, blatantly undermined by the those elected to ensure the corporation is efficiently managed.
How is it anything but shameless pandering and shoring up votes like sandbags?
Why should this or any Council be spared the outrage of taxpayers among us who are not fooled by facile phrases strung together like daisy chains to obscure abject self-abasement and political degeneration?
We are all degraded by unintelligent public performance ?
I have consciously made an effort to detach the blog from town business since I failed to win a seat on the last council. Visits declined and that was to be expected.
In two days since I have touched on the HIghlands development proposal , numbers of visits doubled.
It seems people want to hear about town business even if they do not agree with my take.
In turn,I refuse to believe the neighbourly majority of the Highlands and Mavrinac properties fail to understand the determined effort to keep land parcels out of development are anything but a detriment to the efficient management of our town's business.
Having the resources to retain lawyers to oppose development does not mean it's in your interest to
do so.
Think ABAHT IT.
I will predict that the next election will roll around and the old library will still be intact [ more or less ]. I do not expect anything significant to materialize from all the studies for improving that area. Reading from recent staff reports seems to imply that council is Still in study mode with no decisions having been made.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand. the rebuilding of the United Church appears to be well along its path.
One could suggest from that that the politicians actions leave something to be desired. They have been aware of their challenge since first elected.
ReplyDeleteIn a Brock Weir article this week "Council is set to approve a new music strategy which sets out a plan to make Aurora a friendly environment for music creation, promote Aurora's burgeoning "music sector," build bridges with other musically friendly cities, and "encourage" the business side of music as well.
Tentatively approved by Council at last week's General Committee meeting, the Music Strategy stems out of a Council motion from September of 2013 calling for a live music strategy to position Aurora as a music centre and add renewed vigour to the arts and culture community."
Will Aurora become "Nashville North" or equivalent?
This is a noble objective but I must ask what experience members of council have in their personal lives with music? Do they sing solo or in groups or choirs, do they play instruments solo or with small bands or orchestras, do they write music, songs, operas, do they record or sell or promote music of any sort?
Will consultants be involved to flesh out the strategy and to locate other musically friendly towns or cities? Will additional facilities be required to be constructed, places for rehearsing, for playing, for recording?
It would be good to have some specific information, some direction, some cost projections to breathe life into the Music Strategy.
We already have a Cultural Precinct Plan under way that makes no sense but consumes council time and money and I am concerned that the Music Strategy might do more of the same.
Where does our new CAO stand on all of this?
This ”culture” crap is really getting out of hand in this Town. ”Music Strategy”? They don't have enough on their plates or thrown away enough money on ”culture”?
ReplyDeleteYou may not have a seat at that table with those bunch of clowns, but Town business is still your business. It's all our business.
ReplyDeleteI have read material from the new CAO. He does love his run-on sentences. Stream of consciousness does not always assist understanding but maybe that is the point. Everyone takes what they want.
ReplyDeleteI hope most of the younger candidates got decent jobs and are getting some experience. A few were still kids living with their folks. Paul managed that because he was in the right place and the right time. Likely never happen here again.
ReplyDeleteSure hope to see you Evelyn at the Home Show!
ReplyDelete"A few were still kids living with their folks."
ReplyDeletePlus, a middle-aged candidate in that circumstance.
Some will have stuck around on committees which gives people a chance to see how well they can get along with others. I did think it was a petty mistake to slam the door in Gallo's face and exclude him. Better in the tent than outside imho.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that was a failed candidate.
ReplyDeleteMore likely someone seriously irritated at talk about having the Town Park " re-purposed ."
He's not excluded. He's one of the directors at that cultural centre.

ReplyDeleteOf course he is. Which is why he should have been given something on a committee or at least offered it.
Maybe Trails etc which he could refuse.
