The Mayor has been re-elected . He was challenged and he won.
His success in winning cannot be discounted, legally or theoretically.
It could be argued the challenger was not a real option. But It doesn't change the fact, The Mayor won a healthy majority.
I don't suggest he is not entitled to occupy the seat at the head of the table or that those who voted to re-elect do not approve his conduct in office.Nor do I anticipate a change in thinking or principle.
The Culture Centre crowd would certainly be expected to throw wholehearted support behind him considering more -than -generous annual financial support from town coffers.
Residents of Mavrinac neighbourhood most assuredly must appreciate the purchase of a development site to keep it from being developed and turned into a redundant park at a cost in excess of $4 million and assessment revenue forfeited forever and a day thereafter.
The Historic Society no doubt values town generosity in continuing and increasing annual grants to their small operation which no identifiable purpose.
Queen's York Rangers must most definitely be grateful their interest is served ahead of the town's with an extended thirty year lease , landlord responsibilities and assessment revenues also forfeited.
Davuid Tomlinson undoubtedly owes unqualified support for hundreds of thousands of dollars in consultant fees to forward his dream of a Wild Life Reserve in an urban area.
The list continues and continues to grow.
Acceding to special interests may not always carry the debate In Council but most certainly,
it pays off in votes in an election.
My point is, politicians may be inclined to sell their souls, they can only sell to willing buyers.
This year, Aurora!s operating budget is $60 million. It grows every year. . In double digits, if one includes municipal services of water, sewer and storm water ponds.
For things to change ....things must change. Understanding the reality must be the first step.
I write to that end.
But your "reality" is merely a perception, an opinion, a point of view.
ReplyDeleteAhh...No, Everything that Evelyn has pointed out is true. For all those that have benefitted from council generous gifts will be endorsed at election time. That is reality.
DeleteIt will happen if there are enough people who are willing to do the heavy lifting. Evelyn has certainly done her share of that and knows what she is talking about. That mayor was elected by a majority - he holds the upper hand.
ReplyDeleteDontcha hate this weather ?
ReplyDeleteLooking to the South makes me ashamed to be so gnarly about the heat. I do not know how they stand it in some places.
