"Councillor Mrakas regularly uses Facebook to inform of matters he thinks are important."
And where you regularly troll him and other commenters.

The Internet is still new to many and others are complete strangers to the system. I am still
enjoying the new freedom.
As an elected representative I was probably not first to publish a blog. I believe I may be longest and most consistent poster in Aurora. I continued as a non-elected resident.
As long as I know people are reading, I will write. To those who read but hate it,I invite to bug off.
I commend Tom Mrakas for putting his views out there. I have challenged him. Asked questions . Sought explanations.
That's not trolling.
That's engaging.
As a colleague, I would have warned of the risk.
He might have paid no mind.
I'm not a colleague.
He takes the risk.
I challenge.
He does not respond.
Engagement is perfunctory.
So be it.
One who seek office and expects views to be unchallenged,is due for a surprise.
Those who don't seek office but have opinions to express should expect to be challenged.
I do like Councillor Mrakas. I can see that he's trying to create change and keep people in Aurora informed. I'm not sure if Facebook is the right vehicle for that, but it's something! Something is better than nothing. Now if only the others can do the same. Maybe the new communications manager can light a fire under their seats. I understand that the new communications manager is from Aurora. Imagine that, a staff member who actually lives in Aurora! I almost fell off my chair.
ReplyDeleteThose that challenge you here are labelled as trolls - a double standard?
ReplyDelete"Those who don't seek office but have opinions to express should expect to be challenged."
ReplyDeleteBut, apparently, the challengers and engagers shouldn't expect to see all their challenges and engagements published.
The councillors are making waves again about getting a hotel into town. That must be to shut the door on anyone who campaigns on the subject in the future. I do not see a hotel coming anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteA quiet day in town - an unquiet day in the US.
ReplyDeleteI do believe Mr Drumph may have finally hit a wall.
The only way the town will get a hotel is if there is something to stay here for. Let's face it, the Jazz Festival did not do it, RibFest will not do it, kids' hockey tournaments might - but they are here now already, will more tournaments bring more guests? Not without more ice. Magna is moving out, no business travel. Implode the old HoJo and build a casino/hotel complex instead!
ReplyDeleteBuild it and they will come.
14:43 - Nah..maybe a one of those chicanes, but not a wall.
ReplyDeleteCllr Abel is complaining that Orangeville has hotels. Orangeville is a hub for a huge area and has a hospital. Abel will not get his hotel in Aurora.
ReplyDeleteBuilding a casino would do the trick in bringing a hotel to Town. But governments have developed these "high moral" standards in deciding what's good and not good for us. They are the ones who decide on how to improve our quality of life.
ReplyDeleteA Casino would be interesting, but how would that look in our cultural portfolio?
Delete20:29
ReplyDeleteHow would a casino look to those that feel we cater to the special few (the cultural centre people, jazz festival, etc.)?
The provincial government has endorsed casinos and gambling. They have a huge infrastructure built around the administration of it - including lotteries). There is no moral question to discuss, the government (at any level) has no business being in the moral business because they do a shitty job of that already.
Apparently the financial/economic benefits doesn't out way the social problems. I remember a few years back York Region had an opportunity to develop one. I think it was Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill who stepped up to the plate and started considering it, but then I believe they all opted out.
ReplyDeleteGeez... just throw in a couple of slots in that SCC, it would pay for some of there "services"
ReplyDeleteYou might have something there, 18:26. I've heard via Town Hall that the building could use a safety alarm, after a Town employee was verbally abused by a belligerent bully. Have you heard about that terrible tirade, 18:26?
ReplyDelete100,000 signed petitions delivered to John McCain requesting him to un-endorse Drumph
ReplyDeleteI'm going back to watching Young and the Restless. I'll tune back into this US election soap in November.
ReplyDeleteI think The Auroran has stopped putting their paper online. I find I am reading the hard copy on Sundays now hone the Globe is not delivered..
ReplyDeleteIn the good news dept. Someone socked George Zimmerman in the face.
