Even if there is a "reform" of the OMB, I don't see municipalities doing any better with their Towns/Cities development decisions.

I think you are absolutely right. Where would Councils dump when they don't want to make a decision that might cost them a vote?
They can't do a cowardy- cowardy custard David Cameron and put the question to a referendum, make a balls- up of the entire principle of self-government, send everything into a tailspin of dis-array,
then abandon ship and leave someone else to mann the lifeboats.
Probably a woman. Men don't care to inherit the wind.
They can't do the treachery-do of Dalton McGunty ,cancel a construction project halfway out of the ground at a cost of $1.2 billion ,that we know about, then skip town leaving someone else to carry the can and two of his staff charged with breach of trust.
They can't buy 6 acres and make a park out of a development site like the panty-waists on Aurora council did to please the immediate Mavrinac neighbourhood and build a $3.5 million park within a kilometer of two other very fine facilities.
Never in the history of politics has so much been owed by so few toso many.
We have seen such machinations before.
Every year, for years, municipal councils complained about Education budgets and how little control
Council had over the tax bill. Trustees looked down long, thin noses and proclaimed themselves above the sordid business of politics.
Eventually the Province listened and took responsibility for increases in the budget from thereon .
Now there is no local control or any control for that matter. For the reason education was always at the local level where parents could have a say, the education system has become an institution that serves everybody except the original intent of educating children.
At a time when technology has turned the system on it's head . The question doesn't matter ,the answer is always at the finger tips. How best to use the facility? What can a child in class not discover in an instant for him/herself alone?
It's a serious question. Is anybody asking it? So, what's the answer?
My grand-daughter Meghan, now in her final year at Wilfred Laurier ,God how time zooms by, showed me a project when she was about ten. The topic was everything anyone needed to know about Canada and its various provinces . It could not have been more detailed, complete and accurate. She was ten years old.
With conscientious application and Meghan was like that since the day she was born, and access to
a computer, there was no reason for the project to be less than excellent.
But I digress.
The Minister of Municipal Affairs has announced a review of the Ontaro Municipal Board. His purpose
is to expedite jobs, the economy and education .
The purpose is not to reform so that the proverbial prevaricators of all time, local councils, have the power to bring development, jobs and the economy to a halt in the Province of Ontario.
Pshaw! Who would expect such a thing?
Yoo-hoo....We know who.
ReplyDeleteWe are constantly told, in speeches and ad campaigns that we have good and responsible government, and for this we should be grateful.
This could not be further from the truth. We have blunderers who do not know up from down, and it often requires a consultant and the squandering of tax-payer dollars to prove this. And despite these "expert" reports the blunderers persist.
Case in point.
The banning of left-turns at the Yonge-Wellington intersection between the hours of 7:00 - 9:00 am and 4:00 - 6:00 pm, a Regional responsibility, was supposed to go into effect as a pilot project sooner rather than later. But now Regional officials have learned that this would require a vote by Regional Council and this itty-bitty action will result in deferring the pilot plan.
Has anyone actually measured the number of vehicles that make left turns at this intersection between the above two time periods and the types of vehicles doing so, i.e. cars, trucks, tractor-trailers - apparently buses are exempt - to determine how life will be for these little residential streets and the residents who live on them, with on road parking, when this traffic starts to flow past their homes?
Vehicles turning left at the above intersection could create traffic jams behind them backing up on Yonge and Wellington streets. Is this efficient traffic control?
Possibly better to have advanced left turns for 30 second periods.
And Aurora councillors appear clueless when it comes to intelligent input.
Let the blunderers continue.
You would think with all these stupidities these council members don't live in this Town. They sure don't work in it either.
DeleteThe Drumph Effect is sending Americans to Canada. I am hoping that we are being very picky about weaponry
ReplyDeletefor those who are accepted.
The guns are coming across the border illegally regardless who they accept. And we've never been that picky in the past. Why start now?
ReplyDeleteAurora shooting - everyone is still alive.

ReplyDeleteWe have all read the feel good story about the "Syrian refugees" The Toronto Star prints at least one a week
Too bad most don't know about the other side of the coin, what's happening at Fredericton High School down East where even the local Liberal MP has gone incommunicado.
The Americans should be the least of our concerns
Let's hope for all are sake that it's an isolated incident. Who ever decided to mix 19 and 20 yr olds with 14 and 15 yr old kids was just looking for trouble, and they found it. Professional educators at their finest once again.
