Members received an e-mail from Rogers a couple of weeks ago saying Council's meeting on November 27th, would not be shown on that date.
Staff are not responsible for Rogers taping the meeting.
There was a technologist in the little cubby behind the chamber, controlling the cameras last night.
So, the meeting has been taped.
Something else took its place in the televised programming last night.
That's a decision Rogers made and notified us in advance.
I should have mentioned it.

Please
I spent twenty minute trying to find a comment on the Rob Ford issue that I accidentally deleted late last night.
I can't look any more.
It hurts my eyes to keep scanning the tiny greyed-out print in the deleted file.
So ....will the person who wrote the comment please send it to me again.
I want to print it.
We worked on the capital budget again on Monday night. . From 7 until 10.30 P.M. I think we did some good work, It's hard to tell until we're done.
We will not be doing the multi-million dollar renovation to the town hall or spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the customer service thing-a-mi-jig.
I have to try to get the new roof and HVAC system for the old library back on the table for discussion.
A decision has been pending on the disposition of the building since the new library was completed and occupied.
A year ago, Council passed a resolution directing staff to advise on disposition of the old library and older still firehall on Victoria Street.
Council direction has not been followed.
No report has been presented.
Instead a recommendation is made to spend thousands of dollars on a new roof and HVAC system on the old library.
Like the resolution never happened.
Like Council doesn't exist.
Like it doesn't matter what Council directs because they're not running things anyway.
Like Council is kind of a peripheral floater on the vision of the Executive Leadership Team.
Last night Council allocated $197,000 from the Hydro Reserve to pay for the Sesquicentennial Celebration.
That's like using a credit card to buy candy.
If that's not frittering the fund away in bits and pieces ,I don't know what is.
I begin to suspect our Mayor may be a secret shopaholic.
But we put the boots to the Tennis Club's idea for a playhouse(read year round tennis facilities)in the flood plain to add the exclusive use of publicly-owned tennis courts and club house at McMahon Park.

He broke the rules, was ordered to make restitution, he then chose to ignore those orders and brought the issue back to council and didn't excuse himself. Totally and completely out of line - I can't see how you can argue in his favour and be so against Morris. Both she and Ford believed themselves to be above the rules, they were both "willfully ignorant" of the rules and both should pay the price.

You Would Not Believe Without The Pictures
The above were taken this morning outside my porch door.In Canada, snapdragons are annuals.
In my little side garden they seed themselves and proliferate. They are against the wall of the porch, under eaves longer and lower than they need to be.
The frame of the porch was built by Number Two son when he was seventeen.
It went without a roof for some years. But it had panels of trellis enclosing it.
After an interval of years,Number Three son decided he would go to university and approached me with a deal
He would enclose the porch with windows and walls in return for first year's fees.
I never gave money. I never loaned money. I paid for something in return.
He undertook a substantial foundation. Three of the windows were thermo panes from the sitting room which I replaced with a double hung unit. The porch is cedar clad inside and out and insulated..
The sideyard is enclosed with an eight foot high cedar hedge.
Plants continue to grow and bloom long past the norm.
This year the pink hydrangea grew above four feet and several beautiful flowers bloomed. In England , purple,blue and pink hydrangeas grow to the height of a house.
Mt grandson Keenan just came back from a mini tour.Tells me they are still gardening over there.
My daughter Heather fills an urn with Christmas greenery every year.
This year she added two urns at each side of the porch door. My neighbours, Bert and Helga Fisher saved some curly canes from their garden for Heather to add to the arrangement.
The urns at the side door are filled with evergreens, glossy euonymous leaves, orange berries from a massive vine that I tried for years and years to kill. Now it reaches out to snatch at anyone who comes close.
Fat white snow berries formed huge clusters this year on a shrub I planted forty years ago without knowing what it was.
Everything in the urns except for the curly canes was gathered from my own garden.
It continues to amaze me .

The Conflict of Interest Act is Provincial. If the Ford decision
derives from a flaw in the law, the Province will have to fix it.
We may anticipate a statement from Conservatives and the NDP.
It will be a feast for conversation for months. It will be an election issue.
Unless the McGuinty government moves to fix it fast which they don't look like doing.
What does or doesn't happen to Hazel McCallion will help to fuel the fire.

He didn't need to vote to reject the finding of Toronto's Integrity Commissioner that he repay $3150 in donations for equipment for the Separate High School football team he coaches in his "free"time.
It was a majority without his vote.
But he did vote. He strongly argued the Integrity Commissioner's decision was ridiculous. Because he believed that to be true, He refused to tippy-toe around the issue..He is not dainty.
Rob Ford is a pretty bloody typical Torontonian. That's why he's the Mayor.

So the Conflict of Interest Act allows him to be expelled from office
In a city of millions ,with a bigger budget and population than many provinces. Where the cost of a byelection is said to be seven million dollars.
In a Province where months ago another Mayor was tried for voting to financially benefit of her son's real estate firm and the decision is still pending.
Where throughout the GTA , various Mayors have " Mayor's Charity Fund"openly established.
Even if they have not used public resources to raise the funds, which I doubt, they are using the title of Mayor to solicit.
What developer in need of support from the Mayor is going to refuse a request for donations coming from a sitting Mayor?
Funds from developers and companies doing business with municipalities is undoubtedly the core of funds distributed to charities in their communities.
The United Appeal has a Board made up almost entirely of billionaire developers in the GTA. .
Political parties hold banquets and sell tables for thousands of dollars to raise funds .
Who do they solicit to buy tables of eight or ten?
The same from whom the Mayors solicit support of course.
Dinners are held in private homes. For several thousand dollars a developer can break bread with and bend the ear of a Premier.
It's not done secretly.
People know about it.
The media knows about it.
Millions of dollars are raised that way.
There is no shame.
Awards are presented.
Yet the Mayor of Toronto, raised the piddling sum of $3,150 to buy equipment for a football team he coaches in his spare time , is "kicked out of office " for daring to say :
"It's ridiculous to tell me I should return the money out of my pocket. The money is gone. It was used to buy equipment for kids who didn't have it."
I watched on television.
I'm with Rob Ford .And the electorate of Toronto.
If the decision to kick him out of office he won fair and square,for acting on a deeply felt conviction on behalf of kids in need, succeeds in setting precedent and creating case law, then the "law is an ass".
On top of that it negates the people's right to choose..
Where does it say a Mayor must be handsome, debonair, sophisticated , intelligent ,charming, clever enough to skirt the law and sufficiently ruthless to compel people under their authority to compromise their own professional integrity?

The money was used for the purpose it was raised.
A Commissioner cannot impose a penalty Only Council has that authority.
In a vote of 22 to 12 including Mayor Ford, Council voted not to accept the decision of the Integrity Commissioner.
Mayor Ford extolled the whole thing ridiculous. How could he return money already spent with tax receipts provided and all that?
He said so in full bluster. He believe it so strongly, he voted with the majority. His vote did not make the decision.
So, he used the letterhead , stationary and staff provided by the city to solicit funds for a good cause. He didn't raise a lot.
Nevertheless, it was not an appropriate use of municipal resources.
There was a fire once in a rental town house in Aurora.
Former Mayor Morris, and Councillors Gaertner and MacEachern
promptly announced a fund-raising campaign. It was a Saturday.
I commended the Mayor and Councillors for their quick reaction to a problem. .
I also notified the Mayor's office and town resources could not be used.
About then the Mayor sought an answer from the solicitor about her status as an employee, being harassed and kept from doing her job properly..
No fund-raising campaign had emerged.
At the same time, when Council votes to waive fees for use of facilities for charitable fund-raising events, the principle prevails.
Town resources should not be used for that purpose.
Political advantage is engendered by council's generous but inappropriate use of town resources.
All votes in favour could conceivably be regarded a conflict of interest.
It's not actually a pecuniary interest to Councillors It's not money in their pockets.But it's not their money they are giving away.
Neither was Mayor Ford's endeavour on behalf of a school football team.
He argued with his usual lack of subtlety, it didn't go into his pocket, how could it come out of his pocket.
It has been said. the Conflict of Interest charge against Aurora's former Mayor is not the same.
We shall reserve comment on that pending a decision .

Question for Clarification, please
There is an item about the strong partnership between the United Way and Aurora. Are town staff still required to contribute to the United Way a certain amount of money? I believe that was necessary under the past administration and hope that it has ceased. Staff, even when they can piss us off occasionally, should not be told which charities they must support. Just asking.

Staff cannot be told which charities, if any, they should support. Every family knows their own circumstances best. Plus they are perfectly capable of making judgement about the merits of a particular charity or cause.
I would bet it will be a long time before anyone contributes again to a silent auction to raise funds for the July 1st Celebration. in Aurora.
That said, there is nothing to be said when staff of their own free will sign away part of their pay cheque to the United Way
Before the last term, Aurora had a number of projects that raised funds, and brought them together in goodwill .
That was brought to a halt in the last term.I believe the United Way was presented as the alternative.
I believe there's an individual award or plaudits to someone or other for campaign success .

An elected official does not have respect because he/she was elected, i.e. their position.
Respect is something that must be earned over time by the exercise of sound judgement and a sense of responsibility to those who voted for them.
It would be far more appropriate if elected officials had a sense of respect for their constituents.

Respect in the community makes it easier for a candidate to be elected. How the Councillor in office does the job counts in re-election.Yet that's not all that counts.
There's always a selection to be made.
The selection is a matter of choosing between candidates.
Sometime it can be such a simple matter as placement of the name on the ballot.
I often advise less experienced Councillors ...NEVER NEVER. NEVER underestimate attention the silent majority pays to Council decisions.

Question for Clarification, please
There is an item about the strong partnership between the United Way and Aurora. Are town staff still required to contribute to the United Way a certain amount of money? I believe that was necessary under the past administration and hope that it has ceased. Staff, even when they can piss us off occasionally, should not be told which charities they must support. Just asking.

Staff cannot be told which charities, if any, they should support. Every family knows their own circumstances best. Plus they are perfectly capable of making judgement about the merits of a particular charity or cause.
I would bet it will be a long time before anyone contributes again to a silent auction to raise funds for the July 1st Celebration. in Aurora.
That said, there is nothing to be said when staff of their own free will sign away part of their pay cheque to the United Way
Before the last term, Aurora had a number of projects that raised funds, and brought them together in goodwill .
That was brought to a halt in the last term.I believe the United Way was presented as the alternative.
I believe there's an individual award or plaudits to someone or other for campaign success .

This has nothing to do with the current topic. But I felt I should mention that a Toronto man has been charged for Twitter messages. Someone around here called Clowncil or clowncil watch has been using those. Perhaps they are unaware that they can be easily tracked down? As a woman pointed out, " If my grandson can find you, so can the police ." Actually I think it would be funny but am offering the warning anyway
