"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Irony

What was most interesting was the way Councilor Gaertner hung on every word that was said, her attention never leaving the various speakers.

The way she mixed with everyone at the end could only bring to mind the enthusiasm she showed for the recent bus tour that Council took during your orientation.

Such teamwork!!!

***********************************

I should clarify. Councillor Gaertner did not join Council on the bus tour or the lunch provided prior to the tour.

The tour was very much appreciated by the new Council. It was organized by Leisure Services Director Al Downey. Department heads were able to comment at various sites relevant to their separate responsibilities. It was highly informative.

Councillor Gaertner was overheard to explain since she had been on Council for seven years, she saw no need to take the tour. Apparently there was a failure to persuade Councillor Ballard he should boycott as well.

Councillor Gaertner does seem intent on displaying her displeasure over the results of the election.

It is to be hoped the phase passes. Four years is a long time to be ostracized. Whether effected against a candidate chosen by the electorate or by self-choice.

It's a denial of the voters right to choose.

Hardly fitting from one who has been chosen.

This Wendy business is depressing.

We must hope that whatever is bugging her is not contagious.

It's like having an appendix that's about to rupture; painful to the patient and all those around.

I watched the meeting on Rogers last night. It wasn't quite as colourful as Don Cherry's pink jacket and comments - perhaps that was a good thing.
However, I notice that Wendy Gaertner is as sanctimonious and supercilious as ever and from her utterances last night, she has adopted the "talking down to us"" tone that we got so used to last term from a couple of chairs around the table. I scratch my head and wonder who on earth would vote for her. I see no added value at all.

I was also puzzled when Mr. Ballard mentioned that he sat on 4 committees. Why would one resident sit on 4 committees when we could benefit from the experience, knowledge and diversity if 4 DIFFERENT residents had sat on those committees? We are being short changed if it is the same chosen few who are selected for all committees. I know that there have been several posts on the Citizen in the past about people being passed over and rejected for committees (my husband included). I hope things are done differently during this term. I don't want to see membership made up of the same old, same old on every committee. That just doesn't make sense.

Mr.Ballards comments about "Let the games begin"were sickening.

Mr.Granger is still at being on so many volunteer duties that he showed up late for a volunteer session at Welcoming Arms and left about 20 minutes later.

This is a volunteer position to help the vulnerable.
He had to run to choir practice...

Very very sickening also.

There to be seen and not to listen to those who need it most.

This would be the second time in three terms the vacuous one has has passed on the opportunity for team building and instead shown herself not to be a team player. Of course she will still continue to portray you Evelyn as the non-team player, but now with these blogs she won't get away with it!

Let's just hope that the good overpowers the bad. Sometimes we need an opposition to makes us better and stronger, nothing is perfect. Anna.

How about being fair -- she had to leave because of an illness in the family, which she told everyone in the audience. Perhaps that had something to do with her mood. But, then again, why would you start presenting all the facts now?

so the illness in the family was the reason why she refused to clap after Mayor Dawe's speech? why she scowled whenever he received applause? why she folded her arms across her chest and sneered when he got the first of many standing ovations when presented with the chains of office?

She smiled and laughed when Mr. Elliott (Treasurer) spoke so...

whose not presenting all the facts now, eh?

Ms. Gaertner left the Inaugural Meeting early due to an illness in the family. As for skipping the tour and team building, (a separate time and issue) again Ms. Gaertner shows her true obtuse colours as a non-team player.
Nice try mixing issues to negatively slag Ms. Buck.
