"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Nincompoopery

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Adam,Noah, and that Lot":

To 6:44PM
Heard on the streets...stop the presses...

The one from OZ will also be a candidate in the next election.

Public opinion says he has the votes to get elected

********************************

Nonsense.

Here's another blast from the past.

When the election is over, people expect those elected to get down to work together taking care of town business.

Overt politics are not expected to rear its  ugly head until the next election, commonly called "the silly season"

I call it a celebration of Rights and Freedoms.

The term is not halfway over. Community discussion about the  what, when, how and why, is certainly likely to ebb and flo depending on  the hot topic of the moment.

That  the one from Oz  is likely to win the most votes to take the Mayor's chair in an election 2.5 years away is sheer  nincompoopery.

I am receiving the comment. I don't even know for sure  who is the one from Oz . I would have to go back and research  comments to find out. I am not going to do that.

I don't even know what comment was made to the Adam, Noah and that Lot  post at 12.44, on what day and I'm not going to seek that out either.

The community expects  Council to do what they undertook  to do in a previous  election and that is  commit themselves to the town's best interest from their  individual perspectives.

When the term is over, the electorate , one vote at a time, will make a judgement about who has done a half decent job  and deserves another term.

Having said that, judgement is being formed.  It is a work in progress.

Councillors need to apply themselves to the job at hand.

Making  calculated guesses and decisions that pander to special interest groups at the expense of   community interest is never a good idea.

It's  the common and jaded  public expectation.  It's what  special interest groups count on.

It's the task of a conscientious politician  to prove  otherwise.

That's what generates respect.

All that requires is dogged determination.

Eveyln, this is so weird. I posted on the Citizen as ' Oz ' to comment on the strange events. I'm a Grandma and have no intention of entering politics at this late date, never have had. So maybe some politician is getting flak for my comments. If so, I am sorry,
Oz

Possibly the words "Politician" "Trust" and "Respect" should not be permitted in the same article.

It seems that those who we would respect and trust inevitably let us down.

There are the odd exceptions, but they usually end up in the minority and hence are unable to fulfill their promises.

Is it because we expect too much, or is it that they were playing mind-games during their election campaigns?

Where are "the better angels of our nature?"

A thought about your response to OZ.
Why did you assume the person is seeking the Mayors chair?Could they not wish to be a potential member of council.

Late this afternoon a pair of falcons flew in, probably attracted by the water in the bird bath. They drank and checked the place out from high in a walnut tree before deciding not to take on the mallards. That must be a metaphor for something that happened today, maybe a close encounter of the weird kind? But it did not end in a splash and mess by the back door.

At The next Council meeting the body language and logistics should be extremely interesting. Where once there were 3 votes that were pretty well cast in iron, we know that some of the others are vulnerable. Will Gallo, Gaertner and Ballard still be isolates?

7:32 PM Don't tell that Bird Guy where the falcons are looking to nest. He'll be conducting guided tours. It's like with the coyotes - the fewer people who know where they are, the better.
