"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

When Is A Conflict Not A Conflict?

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Ideas Put Forward.":

Grace Marsh had a plan for that site which I think she tried to explain the night Morris went ballistic in the Town Hall. Do we have any idea what it might have been?

************
Grace had an idea, not a plan that the property could be used for residential development. The day after that her resignation was submitted.

No-one, absolutely no-one, was allowed to have ideas under Mormac's administration.

It was therefore interesting to hear the latest week-end circuit gossip that I myself alone am entirely responsible for "the trouble" with the governance model of the Church Street School.

Ken Whitehurst made the unequivocal statement apparently.

Ken Whitehurst was on the Ad Hoc Heritage and Culture Committee with former Councillors Gaertner and Granger
and current but not former Councillor Ballard.

Mr. Whitehurst was the committee member who obtained paid employment as support to the committee of which he was a member, after the curator support person left for employment elsewhere.

The Mayor sought confirmation from the town's financial advisor at the time, that Mr. Whitehurst was not in a conflict of interest by being a committee member and paid advisor at the same time.

The Chief Financial Advisor hung his head and complied.

The previous Historical Society President, in a letter to The Auroran, affirmed Mr. Whitehurst' credentials for the job but didn't bother to specify why.

So Whitehurst,Ballard,Gaertner,Granger, the President of the Historical Society and the former Mayor,a lawyer
and member of the previous council were all involved when the deal went down.

But what was done entirely against the town's interest, according to current town solicitor, according to Mr. Whitehurst, was all my fault.

It was not the fault of the former Mayor surrounded and supported by acolytes.

Did I tell you Mr. Whitehurst was one of the former Mayor's campaign managers in repeated bids for election and re-election?

The deed was done in the past, with the lousy agreement but the damage was done much more recently when the Heritage Centre went out of its way to piss people off. They aggravated an already bad situation with their tactics. It is entirely on their own heads .Besides, who would listen to Whitehurst?

Can one earn a living managing elections, losing or not?

Watching cynically from the sidelines at past Canadian elections., the one in the States and now in Alta., I would guess it is all about winning. You want a meal ticket that will keep on giving. Morris proved to be a drain on resources, not an ongoing source of them. Got to pick the winning horse.
