Logic or The Lack Thereoff

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Much Appreciated":

Your question about who might be advising Mr Onley is still valid. He has to try & get this right. And he has to do so quickly.

************
Thank you. You allow me to pursue the question.
Dalton Mc Guinty made the commitment to  the electorate to serve as Premier for four years.
We may take that as the reason for the  partially successful outcome of the election.
On what basis , did  Mr. Onley, who must  agree , approve suspension of  democratic governing , simply at  the request of Mr. McGuinty.
How can such a significant  alteration  of the will of the people,be so simple?
Is the institution of government so inexact, so frail, that the electorate's right to choose can be so easily be set aside.
I don't think so.
In Markham, a few years ago, with Djag Bhaduria,  we watched  the struggle to unseat a federal member of parliament for conduct
unbecoming.
The only action possible was to expulsion from the political party that formed the government.
He had no input into government decisions for the rest of the term.
But his election by the riding's electorate  could not be set aside.
We are seeing  now more than  half of  all members elected to the legislative assembly a short time ago, rendered ineffective  by a decision to suspend their role for an unspecified period,  by an appointed official, who  apparently has no obligation to explain.
It can't be just because Mr. McGuinty asked for it.
Dalton Mc Guinty's legacy is certainly a story to be told. I suspect it is not yet finished.
But it is only a chapter in the larger story about how easily our government can  be  brought tumbling down by a decision of a single appointed  individual whose role until now has been  and was seen to be, largely ceremonial.
Mr. Onley did it,
Mr. Onley  should be compelled to answer for it.
Monarchy has not had that kind of power  for  the last several centuries.
Come to think of it, the last one who tried lost his head as a consequence.
What a gruesome thought !

  1. I want to change my Blogger/Blogspot background into a picture I want instead of the ugly plain ones that provide you with.. . I tried looking up on google how to change it but it only came up with how to change the background with the old Blogger. . . HELP!.

  2. Sorry. What exactly is a Blogger/Blogspot background? Is that one of those little logo-things with a sketchy figure that one sees on lists of comments on a Blog? Some of the bigger Blogs have pictures that change but they distract.

  3. It looks likes the Liberals might have another problem. On " Political Points " Andy Radia
" Former Liberal cabinet minister Joe Fontana accused of paying for son's wedding with taxpayer dollars. "

  4. Let's take a look at Christopher Watts' latest post, dealing with the "artifacts" of the Aurora Historical Society.

If the photographs that he has used to illustrate some of this material are representative, it almost appears that the best course of action would be to turf the entire collection. You could turf the Society at the same time and stop paying either $50,000 or $100,000 per year toward it's operating cost. Might as well pitch the curator while you're at it.

And depending on the suitability and acceptability of the Ad Hoc Centre 'tedium' one might give consideration to pitching it as well and start over with a vacant old, fully restored building. With the adjoining land owned by the town you could build a theatre/concert hall and have a world class facility right at the heart of our town.

  5. It seems Dalton is being advised by a ' team ' led by Mr Kinsella. Nothing has been said about who is conferring with Mr Onley. But Gerrard Kennedy's name has popped up re the leadership race - if there ever is one.

I believe that poster made a point of keeping the building . Just took aim at the human riff-raff and lack of accountability. Why do you care where he/she lives? Gottta little list?
