Post by Friend Christopher":
Mr Watts, what "high price" do you pay?
I think a lot of the blog followers would like to hear.
************
Christopher didn't complain of cost . I made the claim.
The price is particularly powerful reaction to particularly incisive remarks.
Mr. Falk's recent foray into the domain of public debate is a case in point:
A letter to both newspapers, takes exception to a town decision to invite proposals for an annual music festival using publicly owned facilities.
Mr. Falk made uncomplimentary reference to the decision and sly reference to one Councillor in particular. Moi.
Reaction followed and a question about misinformation.
The question was answered in the affirmative.
A reference was made to place of employment of a spouse, which is also an area of current public controversy bearing some links. The house not the spouse.
I hear that created an explosion, Further irascible comments ensued.
All of a sudden, reaction to original comments, misinformation, excoriation and all became villains of the piece.
Except for the original letter writer, everyone else is now responsible for drawing attention to his remarks, misinformation, opinion sly reference to moi and his spouse. Not the house.
The original letter to the editor, to many in the community, an inexplicable defense of virtuoso organizers of a former jazz festival, bears no responsibility whatsoever for the furor.
I am saying, it's what one risks when leaving the obscurity and protection of privacy.
It's why many prefer anonymity.
The man published a letter with incorrect information. He was called on it. Normally that would have been the end of it. The ensuing hissy-fit had nothing to do with correcting the errors. No one cares about all that periphery stuff. It reflects a certain degree of arrogance to think we have nothing better to do with our lives than speculate about a spouse's employment. The Blog is multi-faceted and covers many topics.
