A Question of Expenses

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "So Soon Forgotten...or Never Understood ?":

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out why Duffy has been charged over that $90,000 and Nigel Wright is left out of it. It's alright to give the money but not to take it ?

Nigel  Wright was said to have made a gift from his own private funds to Duffy to help him pay the government back for travel claims improperly claimed.

That would reinforce my impression of why Duffy was appointed and his understanding of his role .

His national image and skills in communication would be invaluable to the Prime mInister  if they could get away with charging the government for the cost.

Pamela Wallen  returned several hundred thousand without a gift from the Prime Minister's chief of staff.

Federal candidates do get support from the public treasury if they receive over a certain percentage of the vote cast

  1. The last I read about Ms Wallin had her wishing she had not paid that money back. Maybe she had thought the repayment would make all the problems vanish.

  2. I'm not sure what Duffy's national image has been in recent years. He's apparently quite good at telling slightly risqué
stories about those he has encountered, especially those in "opposition."

Physically he is not as trim as in his younger days and he somewhat resembles Humpty Dumpty. And he did take a great fall, but why and on whose behalf are still unclear.

He was a good interviewer but I would question his skills in communication, particularly as a shill for the government.

This lengthy list of charges seems overkill but everyone is entitled to his/her day in court.

In his case it could do Harper more harm than good, but that is good.
