"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

THE VEIL REMOVED ...WITHOUT GRACE

The Consultants have advised.

Uses  for  Petch House. The first was suggested two years ago, after the building's completion and without aid or cost of consultants. The community was asked and Council received input.

I suggested a souvenir and information/tourist centre.

Encouragement for local artisans to create souvenirs of Aurora. Photographers creating postcards showcasing the town? Woodcutters and weavers, potters and painters and candlestick makers . An outlet created for one of a kind artifacts unique to Our Town.

Copies of old cards could be merchandised.

With heat, light and toilet facilities, special events staff could be perfectly situated to serve the community. Or a co-op could be organized. Or Seniors recruited.

Oh Dearie Me ,no....  such an idea is without validity, save it has a price tag of millions and pockets
are picked to pay for it.

Like the second suggestion.

Build a " skating path" and use Petch house for a  footware change shed for skaters four or five times a year.

A "skating path "

Like Rideau Canal ? Without freezing temperatures? Are we talking artificial ice? On the trail system?
At what price?

I understand the Consultant's Presentation will  be made to Council on Tuesday.

All the ideas for using millions of dollars worth of property, bought with taxpayers' money with no purpose in mind.

The consultant will advise ...so Councillors won't  be accused of pandering to special interests group

And management won't be held responsible either.

I think the skating trail is a great idea; like the ones in Col. Sam Smith Park in Etobicoke and up in Huntsville.

How about asking the Senior Centre for their input? They're right next to it. They run an incredible Centre.

I agree. They are so much more in tuned with this community then our own council.

They have one down the road in Richmond Hill as well.

I understand that the Town Clerk went to work for the Town of Richmond Hill. I kinda liked him. I don't think he made a very wise decision, but I guess money always talks.

The Seniors have been asked for their input. Again and again and again.
As Evelyn pointed out, everyone has been asked for their input. Again and again and again.
Just get on with it, Council.

What did the Seniors suggest?

They have provided oodles of ideas over the year. A skating path was never one of them. We have enough trouble maintaining the rinks now. Most of those on the current council were also there when the idea of a special rink to keep the run-off water was proposed by a staff member. Nothing more was ever heard about that. Sort of like Mr Stronach's Eco_Park.

Lovely day - enjoy...

I read in the Auroran how they want to "repurpose" those assets. No mention of tearing anything down and making some sort of parking structure. The need for parking is not being addressed in this Town. Put then again nothing is being addressed. Lots of talk, very little action for the good all Aurorans.
