"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

A Wrong Choice Of Words

Are you saying that this Council is just as screwed up as its predecessor, only for different reasons?

That is truly depressing.

OK, I will bite. If everyone is a " Director ", how come Council is so far behind on so many items ? Is no one managing the Town Hall?
**********************************
Chaos and confusion is exaggeration.
Though Council is not functioning as a unit.
It  hasn't since the beginning.
Part of the problem is the Mayor  carries out  the  role as if  he is   the new owner of a private corporation completely dependent on the general manager.
Actually every Mayor infuses the role with previous experience. But that usually includes Council experience.
It's not surprising.
But it  contributes nothing  to making Council a cohesive unit.
Though it's not entirely responsible either.
Three  members  made it clear from the beginning, their  intention was not to be  part of a cohesive unit.
They did  not  understand  that's what's  required of  a newly elected Council.
And  they didn't much care.
There really isn't anyone driving this bus. The  steering is erratic.
That's not the same  as the last Council.
There was never any question from the start that bus was careening  down a  long straight slippery slope.
It made it all the way.
This term is not halfway over. .
There is time for correction.
Stuff that needs to be sorted.

Some people find it difficult to distinguish between delegating authority and ceding it.

Man, I do not understand how you manage to remain positive ! On the up-side, Aurora's trees are giving a great sigh of relief. I can almost hear them sucking the moisture up. Lovely!

We thought that Aurora's election was sometimes very rough. It is too bad that your Blog cops holler whenever you move your ideas out of town as the American election is going to be really interesting. It could be fun to try to discuss that here but probably would cause too much grief. Shame. I could use some advice on how to write to my Republican cousin in Florida. Hurricane Ernesto doesn't ring my chimes. A great big country is splitting and your critics get pissed off if you mention Georgina.

I've looked at the Agenda for Council. Someone is seriously deluded. Are you supposed to take a pup tent & air mattress? One item sticks out like a sore thumb - a move to allow the Director to do ' little ' deals with outfits like Oak Ridges Morraine. Be careful out there, please.

It's not just Aurora Council that isn't functioning as a unit.

On Friday our central post office will close.

Or will it?

Actually it's only the retail part of the operation that's being shuttered and some/all of those staff transferred to Newmarket.

The vast majority of the building, all the vehicles and all staff who sort and deliver mail for and to Aurora will continue to function without interruption.

The post office boxes are being transferred to the main Newmarket facility, numbers to remain unchanged, just and exchange of old keys for new.

I wonder what Canada Post will do with the to-be-abandoned retail space. Reader suggestions are welcomed.

It seems to me that there will be little cost saving for postal service in Aurora.

But the government does so badly need to squeeze out every possible penny to cover the multibillion dollar boondoggles of our submarine fleet, our rescue helicopters and our future fighter jets.

Another way of squeezing out every possible penny is to discontinue the penny coin, and that is coming shortly into the new year.

How does our local MP defend or justify this? Possibly another international fact-finding mission.
