"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Music and Other Forms of Entertainment

A little help - Evelyn can you or one of your readers provide the web link to the actual proposal that the Lucid group gave that Council approved in principle this week. (this would be the complete info and not to be confused with the "Gallo" report, sorry couldn't resist that one). I see some reference to a report PR13-007 but this is just a 3 pager and not what the gentleman from Lucid said was a 30+ page proposal. I would like to read for myself what they are planning on doing that is going to generate a proposed $40K profit. Thanks very much.

*************

I was off sick when the Lucid group made their first presentation to Council. I watched it on television. I had heard of the impressive credentials of the group. Christine Bentley, I have watched grow up on television as a news anchor.

Shania Tain's guitarist is part of the organisation.

A judge of the Canadia Idol  program is also prominent.

The presentation was smooth and professional. Exactly what  one might  expect it would be.

The decision of Council was to refer  the proposal  to staff to meet with the group and  work out a plan to include some of our own projects.
A report  asked  Council to "endorse" the proposal and authorise staff to work out details.

The word "endorse" was not acceptable. "Approval in principle" served better and the vote was in favour.

I'm not sure the preliminary proposal  would be on line anywhere
By the time an agreement is worked out  there likely
will be changes.

It's an exciting prospect. Obviously, the group is highly professional and know what they are about.

Councillors Ballard and Gallo and probably Gaertner's opposition probably has more to do with  friends from the past than going forward .

One thing  is certain.  Machell park is the closest thing we have to a fairground.  A festival  there will not mean people are excluded from their neighbourhood park for a holiday week-end by an obnoxious five foot high chain link fence, market patrons  compelled to walk around the perimeter of the park to reach the washrooms and an operator able to permit town space to vendors
at a price.

The festival will be conspicuous.  Handy for  walk-in trade to nearby stores and restaurants. Whatever profits the  festival engenders, will be shared with the town.

Councillor Ballard's request for references from the group struck an off chord.

During the week after the request,  a story was circulated  to Councillors  that  a female person , who did not identify herself, called another involved municipality and made unfounded accusations and allegations of a criminal nature against a member of  the group.

The mischief apparently continues. Councillors subsequently received a head's up ..

Now we wait  to see what other skullduggery might  happen .

I will keep you  informed.

It all sounds really good to go. The vote was unanimous. The credentials are flawless even if someone is slinging the mud at one individual. That speaker hit the button on each councillor with precision. Obviously they have dealt with worse. It was a good evening at council.
Now, will we see an apology in the Auroran next week? Of course, NOT!

Hmmmm?...wonder which female would be making accusations of a criminal nature against a Lucid member? Having pondered that, I welcome Lucid to Aurora.

The same lot are pitching their conspiracy theories in the Banner. Poor Tim Jones gets blamed for everything - Morris will never let up on that guy who never wants anything to do with politics again. The rest just live in the same town & have the temerity to talk to each other. Pshaw!

There must be weeping, wailing & gnashing of teeth in certain quarters. I have no idea how the Lucid event will evolve. If one could have imagined a perfect scenerio, this would have been the one. None of us had that vision. Just hope.

We don't ask any other outfit for reference. Rib-fest-No; Jazz Group -No etc etc.
