A couple of weeks back, I received a copy of a story in the Ontario Planning Institute Journal, featuring the Petch House and how it was "Saved"
The story is written by Michael Seaman, who was Heritage planner in Aurora for a year and now Planning Director in the Town of Grimsby.
I refer to the article as a story because of sketchy relevance to the facts.
Mr. Seaman wasn't around in Aurora long enough to make an impression. But that hasn't stopped him from taking credit for saving the Petch House.
He credits Katherine Belrose, momentarily, self-projected as"Friend of The Petch House" for saving the structure.
With himself sharing the credit as a member of " the committee."
Michael Seaman is clearly a young man on the move.
Grimsby , a uniquely and beautifully designed city in South-western Ontario was severely damaged in a recent catastrophic storm .
The city is in need of re-building. Restoration will obviously require sensitivity .
It would be good to know the Director of Planning for the Town of Grimsby will give better attention to accuracy in that task than he gave to the story of restoration of the Petch House in the Town of Aurora.

Ah yes , the saviors abounded , lots of talk, lots of inaction , if it weren’t for you and your fellow councilors ,it never would have happened ,to bad they could get the story straight
Speaking of giving "better attention to accuracy," Grimsby is in the Regional Municipality of Niagara, near Hamilton.
The town in South-Western Ontario that suffered storm damage last year, that you're probably confusing it with, is Goderich.
Ouch!
I believe Katherine Belrose is/was from richmond Hill but she likes/liked to come to Aurora to play dress-up for different events/ Wonder where the money went that they collected at the Farmers' Market for the Petch House? Sounds like Aurora funding and labour are doing the job.
Ms Belrose opened some kind of kitchen supply place in town that was touted on Councillor Ballard's Blog quite a while ago.
The Petch house nows looks nothing like its former self. What a joke.Even the Hillary house was part of King and not Aurora.Hey,lets bring everybody elses history to Aurora and hide ours away in boxes.
"The Petch house nows looks nothing like its former self"
now what exactly did its former self look like 140 years ago ? perhaps your well informed reader could help us all and shed some light on this .
