"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Definition of Irish Vernacular

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The Age of Phobia":

Wasn't it a senior Conservative Senator who referred to ' lick-spittle ' liberals and journalists? I had to look that one up. She seems to be in a bit of trouble herself right now.

*************

A lick-spittle is a limp -wristed liberal. A person with no firm opinions. Ready to agree with the last person he spoke to. A jellyfish Julian,.

My Dad used to refer to panty-waists. I don't think it has a gay connotation at all back then. Probably on today's negative list. Took it to mean I was being too cowardly about putting the worm on the hook.

Came across a picture of Jenni Byrne in the paper.

She's to be one of Harper's two deputy chiefs of staff.

Although by reputation and apparent past accomplishment she might end up as the top banana.

She is certainly solid and I wouldn't want to meet her in a dark ally. Or any ally for that matter.
