"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

PSSHAW ---snobbery me arse

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "My Preference":

"We don't need someone who thinks he's slumming."

There's that reverse snobbery of yours again.

***************************

At the last Council meeting , a motion on the table was an attempt  to clarify precisely  how the
elected body exercises control and requires accountability  from staff.

The motion sprang from a response from the Mayor a query from Council was tantamount to micro-managing .

During debate, the function of the Mayor as Chief Executive Officer was dismissed as meaningless .

He indicated  with a glance around the table if he really  had  authority as CEO "there would be changes "

The comment was clearly not directed at staff

One is forced to conclude  the  remark was directed at Councillors.

At best it was unwise. At worst, downright stupid

The only meaning  possible was that some members occupying seats would not  if he really was CEO

The comment was offensive.  Not conducive  to  civil response.  In breach of the rule
requiring civility by the member responsible for maintaining  civility.

Insufferable, patronizing, condescending ,insulting reference deserving of  a  straightforward, figuratively speaking, smack in the  teeth.

There's nothing reverse, perverse  or snobbish about it.

It's just -----put  up yer dukes and let's have at you  me boyyo!

And may the better woman win

Offense is sometimes perceived as better than defence.

There are fewer explanations required.

I've never figured out this charge of reverse-snobbery that gets levelled at you and the readers of the Blog. It's usually in connection with some ' entitled ' claim or other. The right to special attention for a few demandees over a park, their neighbours' trees, the view of a pole or the Centre. All very silly and an inaccurate labelling.

Not exactly a good statement in the last leg of term and with elections around the corner. As Mayor he has power in his position. He just chooses not to exercise it.

There has been a week off [ wish you would take some down-time ] so I am expecting the Mayor's letter that he said he would be ' glad ' to write . Then perhaps we'll learn why questions from councillors cannot be asked of staff. The first response was inadequate. I'm not on anyone's 'side '. I just want to know the answer.

If he has asked the questions in the first place, no one would have known about it. There wouldn't have been any mess. Is that called Doing a Harper ?

I agree. But then as Cllr Ballard once said, " Auroras are a bunch of rubes ! " Bet he wishes he had that one back.

Harper's speech this evening has proved that he is ripe for a psychiatric evaluation.

Good heavens ! you've got a budget meeting & then there's a council meeting with an awesome agenda. We really can't afford to take a week off whenever there is an opportunity. Nothing gets done & we get jammed up again.
