"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

There is no accusation of Wrong Doing Against the Mayor

A half century of involvement generates fluency in political vernacular.

Angry people  say thing they forget when they've cooled  down.

They may not like you any better but the situation is only exacerbated by taking personal offense.

A  reputation  must be strong enough to withstand severe criticism , Even the occasional accusation.

If  it's hurled out in anger, 'tis best forgotten..

This  week-end a reference to  "payback" was made about the Mayor.

I read it as critical but not accusatory.

I published it.

It was suggested the comment was libelous

I didn't think so.

I offered a rational.

I think  now that may not be have been enough.

This blog is intended to reflect the hurly-burly of municipal politics.

It's not a Sunday School picnic.

It's a critical aspect of community living.

But it's not meant to create  personal injury.

No  aspersions were intended against the Mayor.

I  apologize.

When I find it, I will remove the offending comment from the blog.

Good heavens, I recall that comment. It was about how politicians raise expectations among their supporters. Nothing more. And the commenter actually came back to clarify the statement. This all sounds very much like when Cllr Ballard raised a huge fuss about ' election expenses.'The thing dragged on for a week of so with him waving papers in the air & claiming to have ' proof ' . Just took a few minutes to clear it up.
Someone is sure stirring the pot & looking for slights where there are none.

There is no accusation against the Mayor but there is a certain amount of unease at the way this Heritage venture has developed. It is reminiscent of his early days as Mayor when we learned about secret meetings with the Centre. A wise man would have learned to avoid even the appearance of working behind Council's back. Not to mention taxpayers being asked to support a major project with little or no consultation.
We have a Norwegian friend raising 3 sons. When they get out of hand, he shuts them down with a simple,
" That is simply not on "
