"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Fasten your seat belts...it's going to be a bumpy ride

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Musical Accompaniment Please":

But what happens when the audience doesn't want to see the end of the play the way the cast have written it ?

******************

If a tree falls in the forest and there's no-one there to hear it...does it make a sound?

I'm not sure if I have that right but it's good enough for my purpose.

No play  is complete without an audience.

They are much a part of the drama as  characters on the stage.

This play is like a T.V. serial.

The  episode dealing with three trees ,not theirs, was prompted by neighbors.  The  characters  on stage picked up the theme and  ran with it , making absolute fools of themselves  in the process with no help from anyone else.

The  audience  knew how it  must turn out .

The question would be how many meetings ? how much bafflegab before the undignified end.

A betting  pool could be set up on how long .... Not how it would turn out.

The saga of the cell tower in King Township .  Eagerness  to spend thousands  on legal fees to compel Bell to dismantle the cell tower was a farce identical.

The six acre site on Mavrinac;  the town has embarked on a legal battle to compel the owner to sell for a fraction of its value with no identifiable need because neighbors don't want to see  houses where they've become accustomed to vacant space.

The Mayor and Council have been commended  for heroic action in the matter with a web site to keep residents informed of the play by play right up to the election.

The proposed  S.E. Heritage  designation that cost $67,thousand for a consultant and  turns out not to be about heritage at all.

It's about  some property-owners preventing other property-owners from exercising  their   right of property ownership.

I could go on and on.

No sooner is one scene over than another begins.

We live in an age of shameless entitlement. I want it. Give it to me or else.

Yes sir  Yes sir    three bags full .

It's tiresome and tedious...repetitious and predictable...often dull with the same characters playing the same roles.

But no matter how banal the script .... the audience cannot leave before the play is ended

It's their  job to bring down the curtain.

The Town has just received another award - this one for being one of the best places in which to live. It was an announcement from the Mayor presumably not part of campaigning but we got an e-mail.
He is not about to change anything he is doing.

If the purpose of weekly council meetings was Comedy/Reality TV, then I might watch it for "sheer entertainment value".

If these meetings were critical in deciding the future planning/benefits for all tax-paying residents, then they should be limited to a few key items per week and last no more than 90 minutes. then the attending audience and home viewers should be able to decide the outcome just like on "American Idol"

At least then it can be argued that the people who dialed in 1000+ times could have an impact.

Spending money on endless/usless consultants and still making the wrong recommendations is starting to smell like ____.

E. keep up the great work!!!
If only you could make it stop snowing!!

Don't forget the improvements to Hunters Glen, the trees at Beacon Hall, the playground equipment that an unsupervised, underage child bumped her"doodoo" on. How about the tennis courts on the south end of town that were halted mid construction? The circus created over the Jazzfest that nobody misses? The list goes on and on about entitlement, selfish endeavors and pursuits, rather than the greater good for the town. Lots of silly drama over the last 31/2 years, and Thank God none of it harmfull like the previous term of government.

That photo was that went with the article was of the Aurora Town building leased to the Culture Centre. Would that be the same one given the Prince of Wales award as a Museum ?

You forgot the infamous bus in the driveway.

Councillor Ballard is asking for people to volunteer to be councillors. Now, I would have thought he had that all covered by now.

@16:55
Remember that poor guy from Lucid who had a great idea & got skewered ?

You have to almost feel sorry for Mayor Dawe. He has this great story that he could try to use to jump-start his electioneering and the town communications department is so lame that the blogs have gotten the news first. The Auroran isn't due for days and time matters.

No, that award was for town-wide initiatives.

A former councillor Lois Hancey in Richmond hill was honored at the Performing Arts Centre in Richmond Hill on the weekend. Apparently she was an advocate of women in politics and served for 28yrs. I don’t find this newspaper all that credible (Error Banner sister paper). Did you know her in your political travels Evelyn?

20:08- I don’t feel sorry for him at all. He’s the Mayor, the leader of this administration. The buck stops with him.
