"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Thank You

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Can We Talk About This ?":

You are quite right - the time lines are different but Cosby sure has built up a lot of anger for whatever reasons. It would be terrific is just a few gals were speaking out about what he had done for them & their families.

****************************

I spent the whole day writing and re-writing  the post to ensure  the question of fairness would be the one addressed.

Thank you for your prompt response. It makes the effort worthwhile.

Now the question is, how much  does social media have to do with  generating and portraying  Cosby as  a sexual predator.

How many blogs will challenge the validity of the message?

It isn't just those who may have benefitted from his generosity who have  a stake in  how this discussion evolves.

Jian  Ghomesi was released from custody to his mother's care in his mother's home.

That cannot be a happy circumstance.

Today's "Social Media" - whatever that is - provides an opportunity to anyone anywhere in the world to comment on virtually any subject in total anonymity without regard to fact, accuracy or truth.

And when there are thousands or hundreds of thousands of "likes" or "tweets" and the cerebral, traditional press seems to make little effort to confirm what often starts as a rumour.

When there is a "fight-back" by the target the more responsible media then take the time and trouble to investigate, and as is often the case, the original "story" is discovered to be without foundation.

In the meantime people's lives might have been destroyed.

There is something wrong with "Social Media." It can serve a positive end, but only if used responsibly. Who determines this?

I think the answer to the question might be...Those who are wise and experienced. Unfortunately, what was once news media is now twisted and also become social media. This is just another example of the decline of values.

One of the main writers for the Globe on the Canadian mess wrote for the Star during Ford's troubled times. It is sad to see a writer being used only in these sorts of instances, She could have worked on the thalidomide disaster to break the pattern.

There are a lot of things one can discuss with Mom. Bankruptcy, addiction, divorce etc. At 47, Mr Gomeshi has a problem with his mother understanding why he is staying at her home.

I tend to view ANTISOCIAL MEDIA as what is occurring these days.

It is difficult to know who to feel sorriest for in these cases. Certainly not the lawyers or the mainstream media.
