"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

ELEMENTS OF THE PUZZLE

One of the 12 has left a new comment on your post "REALLY ! ! ! !":

Are you forgetting that you were on the last council, and these are YOUR failures as well. If you were against any of them, you are still responsible for not debating the issues properly - but then again, I suppose that's why you are sitting on the sidelines.

The comment is published because it reveals a mind set. Writing is a dead giveaway. Straight or twisted, hopelessly contrived, tangled in confusion, mired in prejudice, stunted, mean spirited and entirely lacking in logic, a mind set cannot be obscured.

Blog writing is available to anyone who wishes to avail themselves.

It takes time, energy, skill, discipline and continuity. Like any pursuit, it gets easier with practice.

I practice a lot. Fortunately  I have the time and opportunity to explore and articulate an idea without distraction. It reflects how much I enjoy telling the story in the language I
speak.

Readers are a bonus. Friendly exchange is double bonus.

Comments like the one above  provide contrast. Light and shade.

Without it, no picture can be revealed, no story complete.

I suspect that One of Twelve had an interesting list of candidates in the election. Wonder how many made it to the table......

Not sure where you are supposed to have failed. Most of the singularly weird initiatives got defeated eventually. And I am also hopeful that this will be the last budget of gimmes.

"Not sure where you are supposed to have failed."

You mean other than at the polls?

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on it. We could have cut a lot more fat from this budget. That motion to decrease staffs training/educational budget barely passed, and that was an easy one to cut without decreasing our services. Then when that tax draining center admitted that they had no intention of becoming self sufficient and no one raised eyebrow...I knew then. We are going to be in a lot of trouble financially in the next 4yrs

Negative commentators should stick to the facts, by reading the above, there are no facts.

Ms. Buck; the comment from "One of the 12" has obviously touched a nerve, otherwise you would have not felt the need to make it your follow-up blog entry, as well as provide your response. This is not the first time you have re-posted a comment, nor will it likely be the last. It's a good method of continuing the discussion, and often makes for healthy and spirited debate.

However, what's interesting is that your follow-up commentary took quite a different tack this time. Rather than speak to the comment itself, in this case one of a critical nature, you chose to highlight what you felt were the grammatical shortcomings of the poster, speculating on mindset, and framing the comment as "shade" in the face of "light" - light comments being, I'm guessing, the ones steeped in praise and agreement.

I remember hearing somewhere, that a good host never berates or belittles their audience, no matter how offensive the host believes the comment to be. Taking the high road, debating the comment head on, is the best path. Once you make it personal, whether though direct, backhanded, or passive/aggressive means, you've lost the debate, and have lowered yourself to that of your opponent.

There may be many, or perhaps just a few, who regularly post to this blog. It would be folly to suggest that all of these posters possess the same level of writing prowess as you claim, expertise gained as you say, through practise, energy, skill, and discipline. Basing the core of your rebuttal questioning the writing skill and logic level of someone who disagrees with you is in my opinion, pale and hollow, and beneath someone who has shown such passion in the support of those who deal with mental challenges, those both seen and unseen.

Irrelevant, and bitter .....

For the record, most of the people who now sit at council table are good friends, with the exception of Gaertner and Kim I voted for all of the rest - best vote of all? PIRRI!

Off topic, but has anyone heard of the new Estate Administration Tax (EAT) that the Liberal gov't of this province has put in place effective Jan.1, 2015? How something like this can go through without so much of a peep from our so called local MPP Chris Ballard is disgraceful, it truly makes me sick. To whoever voted for these thieves... you fools!

"Readers are a bonus."

We all know that's not true - readers are a necessity. You require an audience; you can't be you without one. Your sizeable ego needs constant feeding.
