"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

GOOD MORNING AURORA

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS":

Unfortunately, council encourage the Highland neighbours by letting them think that that massive
list of things they did not like about the plan would be considered, A few critical details, even large ones, might have been negotiated but the whole darn thing ? No.
Cllr Mrakas has only to look at what happened with Newmarket.

*****************************

There was an election intervening here.

You can't blame residents for electing candidates sympathetic to their cause.

You can't blame candidates who believe municipal councils have more authority than they do.

Candidates win support like that all the time.

People who insist on being straightforward don't.

People  think Donald Trump is a phenomena.  He's not. He is simply tapping into the primitive.

Everybody looks after what they think is their own best interest.

Americans  have an intellectual, intensely logical President. Quietly methodical.

Yet supportive voices are relatively muted.

While Donald Trump whips fear into panic..

It's dangerous but he says  "I don't care"

He is more terrifying than the terrorists.

President Theodore Rosevelt  said. "We have nothing to fear but fear itself"

I wonder how long it might take Trump to notice what's happening north of the border and what a handy  target Canada might  be .

It's a funny old world.

Election promises in regards to this development? Really? Whoever these councillors were...remember them in the next election.

We have to hope Mr Trump implodes before their election. I am grateful that our own election is over and that the run-up,
which seemed endless, was actually so short. The Americans still have almost a year of angst to go.

On the Highland story, perhaps some candidates for council will emerge now that they have a base. I think Mr Gallo
had roots in a rate=payers' group once upon a time.

Gallo's root are shallow and with no substance.

Please give me a break.

A base? Harper had a base and a fat lot of good that did him.

South of the border the strongest base is the N.R.A.

I am waiting for Mr trump to remember Canada. If he expect the Mexicans to build a southern wall, he
might sue us for one on the northern front. Through Lake Superior ?
