Wrong, again! It is ACTUALLY Sport Aurora that has been pressing the Town to buy/lease the former Hallmark building.
Also, when did the Aurora Soccer Club become "a multi-million private commercial operation"? It is - and has been since 1954 - a soccer and social club (the hint is in the name).

Listen to me carefully. I will say this only waance .( spoken with heavy fake French accent)
In 2003 after fourteen years, I came back.
To equip a boy for hockey and pay registration fees was beyond many families. Other factors contributed and soccer became game of choice.
Gossip swirled about a power struggle within the organisation.Councillors receive many confidences. It was my business because of families involved and facilities required.
It was said,executive officers were regularly dumped for asking awkward question and expecting answers.
Such was the business of the membership but I listened. I asked questions.It's a chickenshit Councillor who doesn't pay attention to what's going on in the neighbourhood.
Demand for fields was excessive .We had the best and recovering cost was sometimes problematic.
The town received a request to lend funds to renovate a suite of offices leased by the Soccer Outfit.
Volunteer sports organisation don't have offices and full time staff. The request was denied.
A manager, professional coaches and office staff were on the payroll. World-wide soccer tournaments were part of the program. I think that's where the glossy magazine chock-a-block with lucrative advertising began.
Fees for recreation soccer were $140. or more and thousands registered.
A soccer bubble,erected on town land ,COST the town $50,000 a year ,produced no revenue but provided year round facilities for soccer.
The soccer group complained about the cost of using it.
A computer registration program was sold for a handsome return.
Retirement of the long-time president was announced.
Soon a competing organisation was created with demands for equal access to town facilities for imembers. We'd gone through that with a privately operated swim club. It was a nightmare.
It was not entertained by Council.
With support of the new Council a new lobbying organisation was created. Sport Aurora was organized complete with magazine. Membership costs thousands. More organizations were from out of town than in. ...with free office space within the town hall
Last week, we learned Aurora Minor Hockey and Aurora Junior Soccer have finally been persuaded to join.
Today we learn, from the comment above, Sport Aurora is the group pressuring Aurora to buy or lease the Hallmark building for year round access to facilities for their members.
Why don't they buy or lease the building?
Aurora families being used as a front once again.
If successful, the next step will be to lobby for tax -supported community user fees for outfits having nothing to do with the Town of Aurora.
But what the hell....Why should they be different to the Mavrinac outfit , Highlands' erstwhile neighbours, Historical Society, Culture Vultures ,Cell tower opponents and whoever else is invited
by Council with an eye to votes , to loot the town treasury, as a matter of right.

I'm still waiting for the Town owned ice cream shop. Maybe if a lobby group was created, we can get it quicker. It can be located in the Cultural Precinct (The Armoury would be perfect), so that it can get a cultural/heritage grant. The building can be renovated or built with one of those "Leeds" designation, so that we can get an environmental grant. We can ask the Mayor if he has any money left from the Golf tournament. It would also cover the "improve the quality of life" for all Aurorans, so that would satisfy all departments and committees of the Town for approval. Hey! It can be used as one of the lures for a hotel to come into Town.
You are confusing two separate organizations. The Aurora Soccer Club is for senior players (adult men & women), while the Aurora Youth Soccer Club is for kids (although they are now also fielding a senior side).
