Gossip":
Yeah, the Town Hall was on Red Alert on Friday that you
were on the warpath about the bell pull. Weren't your enquiries answered? You
know, that the proper procedures were followed through the correct channels, and
that the Town's permission had been granted.
Not every little decision
goes through Council, or else nothing would get done.

This is interesting.
What would constitute a Red Alert at the Aurora Town Hall I wonder ?
Let's follow the trail.
I received a message from someone who reads Councillor Ballard's Blog and knows I do not.
Word about the school bell being refurbished and paid for with donated funds by the Culture Centre Board is on Councillor Ballard's Blog.
Also, that the bell was ring for the first time in many years by Lieutenant Governor David Onley, at an event with an admission tag of $250. for a Queen's York Rangers fund- raiser.
My caller wished to know what re-furbishing the bell, part of the school structure, had to do with a purchase of culture agreement and lease agreement with the town ?
How would funds received from the Town differ from funds received from any other source?
Why would the CCB have authority to undertake the project?
I had no answers ..
I e-mailed the query to Chief Administrator Officer .
He had no answers. But committed to obtain them.
Subsequently, I received a copy of an e-mail from Manager of Building Maintenance.to the CAO. He was aware of the project
and the fact the board had no authority to do anything with the building except by authority from the town.
The e-mail did not state if said authority was requested or granted or by whom.
The answers to these questions are still outstanding.
Now you know all that I know.
What we don't know together is how these circumstances would constitute a Red Alert.
Who announced the Red Alert?
Who gave authority, on behalf of the town. for the Board to undertake a structure- related project?
How are donated funds distinguished from donated funds?
Does responsibility for the building rest with the owners of the building? Who are the owners of the building?
Is the Manager of Building Maintenance owner of the building?
Who is the Gremlin in the woodpile ?
Where's Waldo?

Making a mountain out of a molehill? It sounds like having the bell working again is a good thing.
What exactly is a RED ALERT?
Is this something contained in the Town's Procedural By-Law?
What are the other colours and what does each of them denote?
Who gets to pick the colour?
Can it be any staff member or must it be a Department Head?
Is the CAO obliged to grant approval before the colour is released in a press statement?
Is a quorum of Council required to ratify the selection of colour? Does this require experienced councillors or can newbies also vote?
What if the colour selector is colour-blind and the wrong one is chosen?
Can this be nullified by the immediate release of the correct colour, three times quickly?
JUST WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN AURORA?
Every time I look there is another increasingly idiotic happenstance!
Can anyone name another community in Canada that is as full of BS and WTF as we appear to be.
The jam person should switch to pickles and spend a night in her own brine!
The mountain of fact seems to have hit hidden gold. Well done.
It's all so sad. All Aurora wanted was to have some peace of mind & to have the Museum back in proper hands.
6:52, a "fact" that came under the heading of "Week End Gossip" - more National Enquirer than The Times of London.
The Culture Centre managed to refurbish the bell without anyone knowing. Except Ballard.
The timing of which coincided with the QYR Levee.
It has been declared by Ballard that the Culture Centre funded the secret project with donations. We can assume the donators knew how to keep the secret. Their financials will reveal nothing.
The only residents to celebrate the spectacular bell ringing would have had to pay the $250 ( or have been in uniform or had been given a complimentary ticket )
The community was left out.
Nice. Open. Transparent and of course, accountable. The Culture Centre and Clr Ballard should be proud, they really pulled off a beauty!
Be sure to give thanks to the former Mayor Clr Ballard.

I think that you will find that there are a lot of communities in this country that rival Aurora in this. What do you expect? You have over-achieving community volunteers that somehow think that they can run a multi-million dollar corporation. Just look at the campaign materials that come out every election... X was the chair of the blah-blah foundation or X was the co-chair of the save the rabbit hole association. They have no experience in running a corporation like a town. So when they get in to that postion, they have no frame of reference except their volunteer activities.
Now to the "BELL". Really, do we care? We had a Town Council that had an agreement with the ACC and for the most part (like it or not) the Town became hands-off. Now we see that they went out and bought some Brasso from the hardware store and cleaned up the bell. I really think we are getting petty when we criticise them for not doing something for the good of the community and then when they do something like the bell, we criticise them again.
Who really cares outside of the few here?

Really? Are you addicted to the Enquirer too?
