The motion read like a proclamation of candidacy with the name mentioned in every whereas.
The record might show I moved the motion.
When I thought of it later, I realized it wasn't particularly sensible. That happens in the heat of the moment.
Changing the computer program to accommodate the motion is probably more trouble than merit.
The Councillor could simply refund remuneration for the month.... quietly without drawing attention to his noble deed.
Silly me. Then the object of the exercise would not be accomplished.
We do all know who is managing his campaign and directing his strategy don't we?
That should help him a lot.
I think most of Council are Liberals. A dilemma presents.
The Minister of Health visited last week claiming the Riding as traditional Liberal.
It's not at all.
Conservative Major Lex Mackenzie of Woodbridge was the MLA forever. Former King Township Reeve and County Warden Bill Hodgson followed as Conservative MLA for several terms after the Major.
Liberal Charles Beer of Newmarket held it for a couple of terms . But that was because he was personally very well regarded.
Conservative Frank Klees has held it four terms.
The Minister of Health was mis-informed
It's a compact Riding.
Newmarket historically inclines Liberal but Aurora leans Conservative.It's the Irish Catholic and Scottish Presbyterian influence.
Jane Twinney carries a Liberal name but the Conservative Banner. As a Newmarket Councillor, she has earned a solid reputation in her own right. It will be needed because the Honorable Tim Hudak will be no help.
Anyone who thinks Candidate Ballard "has it made in the shade" is obviously blinded by the hot air and glare of intense sunlight.
It's a wonder he's not recommending the former Mayor as alternate in his absence from Council ; such is his adulation.
It's my impression voters are champing at the bit to throw the bastards out.
Voters generally don't take kindly to being taken for fools.
They take revenge.
The Honorable Kathleen Wynn may understand that very well but there's not a lot she can do
at this stage of the game . The phoney-baloney budget rubbed salt in the wounds.
The NDP will likely find someone to carry their banner. There's always a brave soul willing. Unfortunately, it will be an enormously strenuous wasted effort in this riding.
It's going to be a short ride, Not the least bit bumpy

Hmmm, and how did her last election campaign work out?
It's interesting that Clr. Ballard recommends the two fellow councillors that in the previous term were the weakest and least
vicious of the Gang of Six.
The four worst ones got turfed by an astute voting public.
I hope that with this coming election the voting public will be equally focused and will clean house once and for all. Gallo will be gone as a result of his futile attempt at self-aggrandizement.

Yes, and that's what scares me away from the local Liberals, although I have generally voted Liberal in the past.
This election also needs to clean house and get Wynne & her cohorts out. Problem is there doesn't seem to be any strong leadership from any side you look.
I can't believe Wynne's latest comment that she admits that the McGinty government made mistakes but she is the best leader to correct them. This is like trying to decide on who to vote for of the best of the worst.
Regardless it's time to give another party the chance to screw up & make mistakes, how much worse can it get. They'll mess it up and we'll have another election, and so on and so on. Perhaps that's why there is so much apathy from the general population. We must all forge ahead and make the best of our lives in spite of what the government does or does not do.

There is an individual in town who has managed 3 losing campaigns that I can recall, maybe even more. I expect he will also be involved. As his neighbours we are delighted as he just hangs around his property glaring at us as if we were intruders on our own street.
Cllr Ballard made a big deal out of that motion. Trouble is Jane Twinney did the same. Probably without all the fanfare. Nothing gained.

According to the Election Almanac - just discovered it and it shows all provincial ridings with all candidates from all parties. Lots of "all."
As of a few minutes ago there are three candidates running in Newmarket-Aurora:
Liberal Chris Ballard
PC Jane Twinney
Libertarian Jason Jenkins
Because of the absolutely disgusting leadership of the first two parties Jenkins is going to get an "X" beside his name.
For me this is a similarly disgusting copout on my part. But at least I will be able to tell myself that I did not contribute to an ongoing ignorant stupidity in a provincial government, the likes of which I do not recall encountering, possibly ever.

This is strange as I have seen Baxter signs, but no sign of him.
14:54 - Speaking of stupidity you don't have to go all the way to Queens Park. I understand our town is in for $45,000 on the issue of green or clear garbage bags. Money paid to consultants when we have the payroll we do over at town hall.
Having said that, I have to agree with your logic on casting your ballot.

I find it amusing & a wee bit sick that 2 of the last 4 to be elected to Council for the first time [ No, Gallo was not elected in the last term ] have decided that they wish a higher position & pay rate.
Thank you for the over-view, Evelyn. I had never even considered the provincial affiliation of council members. Didn't have a clue about the mayors until they were out of office. It was a speed-bump to discover the former on the Newmarket/Aurora Liberal board with Cllr Ballard right at the top. It is not going to take a lot of thought to decide a course.

I think 19:29 is referring to Gallo and Ballard.
The comment about Gallo not be elected the first term is semantics. Gallo's first election bid was 9th place (or the "first loser"). However, when one of the top 8 dropped out, his votes made him the next in line.

Gallo was personally selected by the then mayor.
Over 90% of Aurorans were in favour of an election to fill the seat vacated by Grace Marsh.
I do NOT consider Gallo to have been elected in 2006.
This is not a case of semantics. It's a case of the buddy system. And another clone was added to the mayor's gang, one who was incapable of thinking and expressing a clear thought. One who publicly stated that he did not fully understand the circumstances that led to a closed session vote to retain outside counsel and thereby launch a defamation suit that the initiator eventually discontinued.
A gutless witless bunch, all of them.
I find human nature intriguing.
