"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

In the hurly-burly of politics.

Someone commented yesterday the post about Mavrinac was bunk. It 's in the court.  Yes it is.
And that's what makes it a non-issue in the campaign. Except to the people paying attention.
And why does he/she think it's in the court.

I assume anyone in the habit if reading this blog is interested in Aurora politics in particular or politics in general.

I said yesterday if an issue is deliberately created for the purpose of an election and  successful that was considered clever politics .   It would be repeated in future campaigns.

Hydro's plans to increase the  power load in the hydro corridor was a convenient issue in 2010. Milked for all it was worth.  Children's lives were said to be at risk. A promise was made that wires would be buried.

The campaign was successful. Votes from the hydro corridor area put the candidate in office.

Then all promises fell by the wayside.

The issue becomes baggage in the next campaign.

Then the issue  was about trust.

How many times is  trust betrayed before cynicism sets in.

An election is won, one vote at a time.

In my book, trust is the currency .

It can't be bought and it can't be sold.

It must be earned.

This blog is about the minutae  of politics. And the passion.

If it's worth doing, it's  worth doing honestly .

Taking a risk in the hurly-burly, it  will be recognized  from the  rest.

It took ages to get those poles up & everyone watching was reminded each day of the previous promises. But you are quite right. Scare tactics can work. We saw the orchestrated panic about the cell tower in King. As far I I know, all those residents are doing very well & there was no mass exodus.

My all time favourite was that piece of playground equipment that the arm chair experts demanded be replaced for upwards of $5000.

The majority of politicians, worldwide, are not worthy of our trust.

And if they should start out with a bit, they soon dash it upon the rocks of office.

There has to be a better way, but unfortunately no one has found it.

I still feel, as I have always felt, that there should be a law on the books giving the electorate the right through plebiscite to recall politicians who have substantially failed us.

This legislation exists in several American states and was the basis for Arnold (The Terminator) becoming governor of California.

With so many candidates vying for attention, there will be those who take a risk and make outrageous promises. I have only spotted a couple of those but probably missed just as many.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I'm certainly not. But I'm sick and tired of being told that I am.

14:48 You may not be sick but you might be tired if you had to commute to the city daily during the rush hours. I get sick of politicians talking about traffic congestion as another development is approved and more stop light are added along the route.

No need to tell you, but for the others there are a lot of folks sick and tired of it.

I nominate this for the Sweeping Generalization Award.

Are you OK ? It is really quite simple. Do not pay any attention to political pundits.

You contradicted yourself in your pointless comment, 14:48. #facepalm

I am thinking of this election as a challenge. I am being asked to invest in a mine that I know has been salted.

Saw 3 Buck signs on a run into town from the north. Nicely done.

14:48 thanks for the Graham Chapman quote. I couldn't help but read it in his voice.

What was everyone thoughts on the Poll results? Seems inline with who I would vote. Except 1 very odd candidate who appeared.

Thanks Christopher.... I could not resist.

Mr Weir is running a nice tight poll. I do not believe there has been much abuse. That being said, the # of people who bother to read the Auroran on line may be quite small. I appreciate his effort but the last few elections have turned me right off polls.

My apologies to everyone that missed the humour in my post - I am 14:48.

Chapman and his associates, were brilliant with the language.

For those that are looking into deep meaning, sorry.

And now for something completely different.

You're going to need a big broom.

Mr Weirs poll is a farce! I do not live in the town and I voted. If you have a candidate who is good with the Internet and asks their friends to go on line and vote and asks their friends to do the same thing. The circle grows and so does the vote for said candidate. I could also ask people from across the world to vote, nothing stopping them! So public beware of false securities!

How is it that Alice Lalas is leading the poll? Is it because she is first alphabetically.
