"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

SEE-SAW ...MARJORY DAWE

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "WE HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE PROBLEM":

I see you took down the FAKE anti-Muslim re-post. (You're welcome, by the way

*****************************

The post was sent to me and I thought it was worth sharing. I took it down after a reader forwarded repudiation from the City of Dorval.

I appreciate your interest in my blog. It's intended  to be a two way street.

***********************

Unless someone wanted the opportunity to make a bid for the Regional Chair, I can't imagine why
Councillors took time to discuss changing the process. I would appreciate  if they would
get on with decisions within their mandate. Like deciding what to do with redundant municipal  buildings on Library Square .

At the first Chamber of Commerce Mayor's Luncheon of the previous term, the Mayor announced
to vigorous applause, an application has been made for a hotel. It never happened and was never mentioned again. The approved site plan is likely still on the books. Although, I believe there may be a time limit. Obviously there is no requirement for  a hotel in Aurora.

I don't know why the discussion at an Economic Develolment Comittee doesn't include all the information. Unless all they want to do is hear themselves talk.Input from the Economic Development Officer or his associate is never reported.
*********************

I invited the one who refuted my comment on the Historical Society's finances to give us the facts. He didn't. Told me instead to research the society's budget.

I get that from people .They accuse me of misleading  but when invited ,they don't choose to set the record straight. It's too much trouble.

Chris Watts does a good job of keeping track. Hillary House was handy for the tennis club's promotion.

That was an unhappy house at the end of its domestic occupancy .Two sisters lived in different parts of the house and didn't speak to each other for years. The historical garden parties, croquet parties, tennis parties were not open houses.

In a town where no-one passed on the street without acknowledging each other with a tip of the hat and a friendly greeting, the Hillarys did.

The house has a rubble foundation. It needs to be lifted off the foundation for a new one to be
excavated and constructed to keep the house standing.

It's been like that for years. No sign the  Historical Society intends taking care of the problem.

They get a $70,000 grant from the town every year to amuse themselves and use the house however  the President chooses.

*****************************************

I see three hundred and some households are being asked to contribute $600. each for standing at the OMB to keep the whole golf course green. Not content with half the course being undeveloped . They want it all.

And in a town of 60,000 Aurora  Council is so occupied with matters not within their authority ,they simply refuse to do what the law requires, to accommodate  three hundred odd people who have money to burn.

Scott has a good column. He gently mocks a lot of subjects council has been failing to address.

That is an " initial " fundraiser. Then they are going to canvas the " larger community ".
Wonder who is minding the book-keeping ?

Mr Stronach had a hotel planned at one stage as part of his convention complex. Heaven knows what happened to that and his Ecco Park. The weird thing is that we do not even seem to be able to deal with the existing creepy ex- hotel right on Yonge. Surely there must be some way to force the elusive owner to take that down before something awful happens.

The larger community has already been funded via the Town.

3:00- There is nothing the Town can do except to enforce bylaws.

@ 12:02
Is there not a certain amount of maintenance required for any building of property ? I recall the town going in to cut the grass on a lot on Kennedy which was being neglected. If the taxes are not right up to date, cannot the town move to take it ? I am just asking as I really don't know - not baiting you.

That poor old house gets ignored for most of the year. As a resident, I ova e quite given up hoping it can be reclaimed. A succession of users are passing through its doors. Each year a litany of promises unfulfilled.

There is a sign on Tyler Street just east of George Street that cautions about low power lines.

It has been there for years.

It might be appropriate for Powerstream to replace some of the hydro poles and raise the lines and finally scrap the sign.

It's " heritage ". Humfryes would have a fit if that sign were removed.

Take a look at a children's book written in 1970 by Bill Peet called THE WUMP WORLD.

It is about the near destruction of the only habitat of creatures known as Wumps.

One could have a book written today called THE TRUMP WORLD.

It would not be about near destruction, but total destruction. There would be no hope, no future.

Drumpf got thrashed over the weekend. They are going to have to select either him or Cruz to run against Hillary. I do like her odds when and if that occurs.

15:32 - Yes, there are bylaws that the Town can enforce if property owners do not maintain their property. I don't believe that they can take ownership of the property, but can force the sale of the property if the taxes are in the arrears.

As long as Trump, his current wife and his daughter continue to talk, his numbers will continue to plummet.
