"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

ODDS AND SODS

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "A SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE PLEASE":

Edward's Gardens is a lovely place. I spent hours there as it was being developed first as a small project and then enlarged.
Right smack in the middle of nowhere once and now in the centre of full development.

Thank you. Often it seems as though my voice just lifts in a gale force wind and whirls away into silence

Our family visit to Edwards Gardens was on a weekday.  It was thronged . Wedding groups were lined up waiting a turn for portrait photography.

In 2013, I suggested Civic Gate Park, near the town hall, be named Queen's Jubilee Park and a rose garden planted. Councillor Pirri proposed a playground  for the disabled . A  consultant study was done and  cost of the latter was estimated between  $400 and 500 thousand.

Councillor Gallo said his neighbours did not want to lose the space for kids to play soccer.

A wooden plaque was installed with full panoply. Then silence spread across the land.

Quality playground equipment is designed  for universal needs. The Town of Aurora installs quality playgrounds. Nothing at all  was done in Queen's Jubilee Park.

I remembered something else about Petch House :  $14 thousand of the budget was spent  before any actual work was done.  One study was done. Then another.

Finally the original report from Mr. Van Nostrand, free of charge ,was accepted and work proceeded.

A cement slab was poured and four walls and a roof were assembled on top of it. Much like had been done a hundred and forty years before. The building has housed many generations of families and stood the test of time. That and funds made available made preservation worthwhile.

The Town's Chief Building official demanded a permit application complete with fee and engineering plans.

The building is not wired and there are no toilet facilities.Completion would make it that more versatile.

The  last I heard , an occupation permit from the building department was problematic. That was almost two years ago.

You are omitting the original $420,000 price tag estimated on Petch.
Also the facts on how Peter entered the equation.

We are seeing similar silliness in the reluctance of Marvin to allow community gardens into "THEIR " park, despite it belongs to all of us. Excellent letter to the Auroran from a lady explaining why they should share with the rest of us. And we do need more space for that. I am more interested in that that in the posturing Precinct thing which we cannot change, Who needs just unintrusive activities like pickle ball in Mavrinac ? Pickleball, for crumbs' sake !
