"Cowardice asks the question...is it safe? Expediency asks the question...is it politic? Vanity asks the question...is it popular? But conscience asks the question...is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it is right." ~Dr. Martin Luther King

Thieves and Robbers of Every Stripe and Nomenclature

A few weeks ago a hilarious story was in the news about a bank robbery.

A band of merry men had planned it well.

They went through the roof of  vacant  commercial unit  next to a  bank and worked their way through the wall in the evening hours ,into the bank ,out of sight and uninterrupted.

They took the money and  ran.

But they hadn't made plans for the getaway.

An alarm went off and when the police arrived they found the miscreants hiding nearby in the bushes,
loot bags intact.

I thought about them last night as I watched The Honorable Kathleen Wynn  earnestly  assure the people of Ontario how sorry  she was about the billion dollars squandered to save Liberal seats in the last election.

I wondered if they too could apologize  for  their attempt to rob the bank for their own advantage  and being caught with the loot still in hand.

The bank wasn't even out the money. Unless of course the police are holding on to it as evidence.

Would being sorry  be sufficient  to excuse the robbers for their villainy ?

Should the bank have a say in the matter ?  It was their money after all.

Could they say;  "Give us back our money and we'll say no more about it"

I listened to the Premier  giving her best open transparent heartfelt acknowledgement  of wrongdoing and  skillfully drawing the NDP in to share the blame at the same time .

John Tory  said  the Premier should use the time available to govern. By the time of the next election, people will have forgotten about the scandal.

Val  Sears said she should  eat a very large slice of humble pie.

I don't think she did that. I think she put on a very carefully calculated performance.

I think John Tory completely discounts the reality of the social media.

It's not yet subject to the competition of the commercial media.

It's perfectly capable of keeping scandal alive and rampant and in the forefront of public attention as long as it sees fit.

The result of last night's five by-elections is the living proof of that.

I cannot fathom what is wrong with the conservatives. Can they not see how much Hudak is costing them ? Those by-elections should have been a slam-dunk & people stayed away in numbers. There are a lot of confused voters right now who are leery of all three parties. I'm not a conservative but I would be furious if I were. There has been plenty of time for them to get rid of him and find someone more acceptable- maybe willing to indulge in a budget debate. It's bad enough not wanting to vote for any of the above.

Ms Wynne has already shown that she will go with whatever wind is blowing. She was adamant about no new subways - until the by-election in Scarborough. Then she had a change of mind. And a Liberal was elected there largely because of the proposed subway.

I agree with you, Evelyn. There are legal ramifications that will also take their toll on the Liberals. The attempt to destroy documents & intimidate the speaker will linger until any future election. They actually asked former Supreme Court Judge Ian Binnie if they could sue the opposition for defamation. Where have we heard that stuff before?

Frank Klees has been around forever & he seems quite nimble politically. I don't understand why he and his party have allowed so much time to pass without challenging Tim Hudak's non- leadership. If there is one thing that the pundits seem to agree upon, it is that Hudak is a dead weight. No one seems to know who he even is or what he has planned - if anything.

I hope the Premier sent Mr Hudak a really nice flower arrangement. She owes him big-time.
